Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson, known for his extensive and eclectic film soundtrack contributions, has died at 48 years of age in Berlin. The news of his passing have been confirmed by his official Facebook page. Cause of death is yet unclear.

His repertoire contains works on films like Sicario, Arrival or The Theory of Everything, as well as a highly influential solo work. His latest non-soundtrack album, Orphée, came out in 2016.

Prisoners' score was beautifully haunting, Sicario was weird and unique, and Arrival was hands down his best work. Couldn't believe it when I heard the news...he'll be missed. RIP.
