Kamelot drummer departs

American power metal band Kamelot has officially announced that their longtime drummer Casey Grillo has departed the band. According to the band, Grillo decided to pursue other musical and tour opportunities and to focus on his own drumhead company. Grillo has been in the band since 1998, with his first album with the band being Siége Perilous.

Casey stated in a letter saying:
“First and foremost I would like to thank all of the Kamelot fans around the world for your support during my time with the band. It has afforded me the opportunity to travel the globe, meet the most amazing people, experience so many cultures, and to share some of the most memorable experiences of my life. Between the various other musical endeavors I am involved with, along with my rapidly growing business DrumStatic.com, it really just became evident it was time for me to explore and focus on these new opportunities without compromising the exclusivity Kamelot needs and deserves.”

In the same announcement, it was also revealed that Johan Nunez, who is also the current drummer for Greek power metal band Firewind and former drummer of Swedish melodic death metal band Nightrage, will become Grillo's replacement. In the meantime, it is rumored that Grillo is aiming for a spot as the new drummer for Queensryche after touring with them in early 2017.

The news comes just months before Kamelot is set to release their twelfth studio record The Shadow Theory on April 6th. The album will mark the final appearance of Casey Grillo with the band.

Someday they'll have all members replaced by young guys. It's like a band version of the ship of Theseus.

Thats unfortunate. He's one of the better drummers in Power metal for sure.

Just noticed that Youngblood's the only Black Halo era member left in the band. That actually makes me kinda sad to know.

It's his band basically, but without Casey and Roy especially it will never feel like Kamelot
