Hundredth explain change in sound

2017-06-01 by ZodiacalWolf | 35 Comments
Accompanying the release of their new song "Hole" former US hardcore act Hundredth discussed in full detail during an interview with CLRVYNT the reason behind their sudden change of sound.

"We wanted to go on tour; we started a band because we wanted to go on tour. Truth be told, none of us really liked the music we were playing. We’re all into different shit, but it turned into a hardcore or metalcore band, whatever the fuck it was. It was an element we felt we could easily play at the level of talent we were at the time, so that’s the way we went with it.

When we decided we were going to move in a new direction, we knew there’d be no screaming on the record; it wouldn’t be as abrasive a record. If you’re screaming about laying on the floor listening to music, it’s like, why are you screaming like that? That’s normal...

All of us were at that point. Just, fuck it, let’s try to make something way different because we think it would make us happier."

The way Chad feels about the core scene seems pretty genuine in this interview. That or I just really agree with his opinions.

I don't blame them for wanting to change their sound considering it wasn't something they all enjoyed playing though.

Very interesting read. I can totally relate to what the interviewer mentioned about their previous releases. The new songs sound really great though, definitely looking forward to the record.

really didn't like their previous material at all. checked out the new stuff after hearing about this change of direction and I'm very pleasantly surprised. might actually buy the new album once it drops.

I dug some of their old shit, and I dig Chad's screams, but this new sound has been a great change.

"Truth be told, none of us really liked the music we were playing."

I finally understand why I never liked this band, they hated their own music, that's why it sounded so fake.

Always thought these guys were on the bottom tier of melodic hardcore. This is great though, excited to hear the rest of the album.

Too bad they didn't consider the shitty genre tagging system of Sputnikmusic, so all of their albums will forever be tagged as metalcore.

I had just assumed the reason was "well everyone else is going shoegaze so why not us". I guess I'm glad there's more to it then that.

LOL bullshit they didnt like their music. I'd rather them just come out and say that they're latching onto whats popular than lie about why

it sounds good, it worked for title fight, they're way better as a shoegaze band. just hope hundredth didn't drop their generic sound just to go to another generic sound.

Really humble dudes. Cool that they don't want to play music for money, but for themselves and their fans. I respect them and their change in sound 100%. New album will rule

God damn you guys are cynical, classic Sputnik. It is possible that they changed their style simply because that's what they wanted to do. Doesn't absolutely have to be a money grab tactic.

Like anyone is making bank as a shoegaze band anyway lol
