18 Day Long Thom Yorke Song

2015-05-30 by Rowan5215 STAFF | 69 Comments
Radiohead frontman and noted eccentric Thom Yorke has shockingly announced an eighteen day-long song. Titled Subterranea, the piece is an accompaniment to an exhibition debuting in Sydney, Australia. Said exhibition is the brainchild of Stanley Donwood, a longtime collaborator of Yorke's who created the artwork for OK Computer and the Bends, and also runs for eighteen days.

Read all about it and hear a comparatively miniscule snippet of "Subterranea" here:

why wouldn't you just play the song over and over again instead of packaging it as an 18-day long loop? or just divide the sections? or do something else to avoid this massive annoyance?

people calling this pretentious:

its an 18 day exhibit. he made 18 days worth of music for it. its probably just a loop but that is dedication to the art project at hand. not every single little thing that upsets your delicate sensibilities is pretentious just because you don't like the idea of it. stop throwing that word around to wantonly criticize everything that mildly offends or intimidates you.

or maybe he is just making an 18 day musical piece to an accompany an exhibit at the request of the artist and not making an 18 day musical piece that he expects you to sit down and listen to

music isn't always intended to be digested as an album in a casual sitting, music is made for many other purposes, get over it.

No Facade, this is what people who participate in art call a project. Projects can have different goals. Surely one of them is not to please your perception.

bull of heaven is still longer

In early 2014, the band released a fan-made compilation of love songs, 300: Songs for Girls, followed by 301: Weed Problem II-V, and another extremely lengthy piece, 302: It is Part of Space and Time, which runs for at least 86,370,000,000 years

Whatever man, this is irrelevant to my perception it is of my opinion, and besides, people will fight tooth and nail to defend the name of art and that defeats the purpose of even enjoying it. There is nothing worse than insecure pretentious "frontiers" of art.

I don't believe Yorke would do anything out of insecurity at this point. Everything starts off pretentious before it reaches the masses.

And perception fuels opinion. As for the rest of what you say it's the same bs generalizations I read everywhere and I'm glad people'll fight and take risks to piss you off in the art world (not that Thom York is taking any kind of risk here; he's just designing a soundscape to accompany the exhibition of one of his longtime collaborators; this isn't really a "song" you fuckers)
