The Wonder Years cancel Australian tour

2014-08-21 by dimsim3478 | 28 Comments
Earlier this year, Pennsylvania's The Wonder Years announced an eight-date national tour in support of their latest full-length The Greatest Generation, but it looks like Aussie pop punk defenders won't be seeing the band for a while longer as they have cancelled the tour, releasing a statement as follows:

"We're devastated to announce that we must cancel our upcoming Australian tour due to circumstances beyond out control.

We appreciate all the support we've had over the years in Australia and are looking forward to coming back as soon as our schedule permits.

Refunds will be available at the point of purchase."

Hosted by the bedroom-based agents Hook Turn Touring and featuring a run of national up-and-comers including Hopeless Records labelmates Trophy Eyes and the emo-tinged Ceres (who are on a full-tour support slot with Say Anything in October), the tour sold out its Melbourne all ages date with the rest of the dates "selling quickly".

This leg of The Greatest Generation World Tour was further promoted with promotional giveaways by Hook Turn Touring as well as a radio interview on Triple J's punk show Short.Fast.Loud, and was to be The Wonder Years' first performances in Australia since the 2013 Soundwave Festival in which they got a security guard fired. The tour comes hot off the heels of frontman Dan Campbell's solo record entitled We Don't Even Have Each Other, released in July under the pseudonym Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties to positive reception.

The Greatest Generation was like, 2nd best album of the year for me. I can't see how anyone could hate that album tbh.

Yeah it's perfect. And a grower for sure. Everytime I come back to it, it gets a little better.

Man, they have so much bad luck with Australia. When I saw them, they were supporting a bunch of metalcore bands so the dumbass crowd was incredibly hostile, and on top of that, Soupy's voice was kinda fucked that night.

I respect them for sticking through it for the fans that did show up, despite all the heckling.

I'm pretty bummed, never saw them last time they were in Aus.
We get screwed over with bands a fair bit, they love coming here but they just never get to do it often enough.

$20 says aaron west becomes their main thing now and they break up because "its not who we are as musicians"
