2014-06-26 by erizen826 | 42 Comments
Relapse Records have announced that they will be reissuing Mastodon's debut full length
Remission.
The reissued version will be fully remastered by the album's original
producer, Matt Bayles, and will have an enhanced version of the original cover art.

The CD version of the reissue will include a sticker, while the vinyl pressing will be a
double LP that will include a 24-page art book with unused artwork that original artist,
Paul Romano had created for the album. The vinyl package will be limited to 2000 copies
worldwide.

And check out the trailer for the reissue here:

These guys have such awesome artwork. It's worth buying even if you have no idea who they are or dislike their music.

Good news seeing as I don't own Remission yet. Looking forward to hear any production differences, a complete re-mix sounds interesting

So much hate for the last two albums for no reason, meatheads just want them to keep making Leviathan and Blood Mountain over and over... most great bands actually change their sound and don't stay in one place for their career. I'll agree that the Hunter wasn't my favorite but it had it's moments and OMAtS was a step up from it. But yeah I'm excited for this reissue!

Great Relapse, now make it fucking affordable on vinyl for once. Every time they do one of these reissues, they price them way above what they should be just because they're colored or whatever. Plus, their colored vinyls sound like shit.

I suppose relapse are making the most of the albums mastodon recorded with them. Probably won't be long until Leviathan and even Blood Mountain are re released.

sweet, i disagree with others though cause this album's production sucked ass and definitely will benefit from a remaster

Not a problem with me. Mastodon didn't really have good production until Crack The Skye anyway.

You don't think? I think the production on blood mountain is excellent.

Everyone needs to calm down! I made a mistake. For whatever reason I remember Blood Mountain having poor production.
Jeez, ever heard of being human?

Leviathan definitely would fair better with better production though.

nonapplicable with a wack as fuck opinion as usual

Do I know you?

Good news seeing as I don't own Remission yet. [2] will definitely pick it up, just for the extended art and extras and the fact it's the only one I don't have.

Regarding production, I like the original production of the first 2 albums. It's "sludge" metal so it's supposed to sound murky as hell

I just listened to Leviathan vs. Blood Mountain and there's a big difference in production. Leviathan needs to be remastered as well but it stops there, the rest sounds great as far as I'm concerned.

Crack the Skye's production feels makes the tracks sound muffled at times. I'd say it's their worst mix out of the albums I own. (which is everything minus The Hunter and Once More 'round the Sun).

True, bass and drums don't really seem to jump out there as on the other albums. What I noticed with Leviathan is that some songs are noticeably mixed lower than others.

leviathan does not need to be remastered, the production is one of the things that makes it so great
