Matt Deis Leaves CKY

2010-06-21 by drasticaction74 | 14 Comments
According to vocalist/guitarist Deron Miller, CKY bass player Matt Deis has left the band. It is assumed that Deis ejected himself sometime in May. Deron said on a CKY Alliance message board:

"unfortunately matt deis can no longer commit to CKY...i think we all knew this was going to happen months ago but we all tried to make it work out. thankfully we were well prepared." (5/31/10)

Deis joined the band in 2005 shortly before the release of An Answer Can Be Found, and became the band's first full-time bass player.

I saw CKY in 2003. I have all of their albums. I wish Deis good things, but Margera can only drum marginally. Want a better band? Find a better drummer. These guys are a hometown chemistry act, and it appears that the bonded trio of Miller, Margera, and Ginsberg can only produce a few good songs floating in a sludgy album of late.

I think that was the year I saw them too, whereabouts was your show? I don't mind Jess' drumming, though I can't argue it's marginal. I guess it just doesn't make a big impact to me.

As for seeing this coming, I think any fan of the band could've...I'm amazed Deis stuck around for this long. Ahh CKY, when will you ever find that elusive bassist?

Edit: Nevermind, the show I saw could'nt have been '03, I saw their Answer tour, with Deis on it, so it was '05.

The drumming is exactly what it needs to be. The man plays amazingly.

Volume 1 is a solid album and IDR is decent, but I didn't really like the albums that Deis played on. Hopefully the line-up change will change their sound.

Now they got Matty J. who seems like a cool guy.
I can't wait for the new songs they're making to be released and I can't wait for World Under Blood's album to come out. CKY is one of the greatest bands I've heard. Jess doesn't use a double kick and he's on top (listen to his drumming on Carver City), he's a heavy hitter.

I honestly used to think these guys were trash before I gave them an honest chance. And I'm sure loads of people love to bash them based on preconceptions...but ignore that embarrassing Bam shit, and these guys are now among my top 5. One horrible album, and the rest are 100% golden. Great, great band.

"On March 19, Miller confirmed on his Facebook page that he is no longer a part of CKY. In an interview at the festival, the group confirmed that they are going to continue without Miller and are planning on writing new music in the near future with Daniel Davies, as well as touring the United States and elsewhere"
