after the first song, MVP, i was kinda pumped, but a bit thrown off by the super-long-one-note breakdown at the end of the song.

Well, we happen to disagree on that. I'm not a deathcore hater like just about everybody else on this site.

I used to like Deathcore at one time. And you aren't a deathcore hater just because you have never listened to better death metal. Despised, JFAC, Suicide Silence make watered down versions of stuff ( WAY better stuff) that's already been made.
Listen to Hypocrisy, Bloodbath, Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Sodom etc and you will see.

We don't hate deathcore, we hate shitty deathcore, which sadly is most of the bands in that genre.

Also, just to put in my two cents, deathcore and death metal are both good. Death metal just has more good bands.

Death Metal also has a lot more horrible bands as they have been around longer.

as far as ratio goes, the number of good deathcore bands compared to the number of bad ones is like 1:100000000 and the number of good death metal bands to the number of bad ones is probably more like 1:10000

Don't be so quick to judge. I love all of those bands. I like straight-up Death Metal (and I like to think that I'm very well-versed in most Death Metal acts, including most underground, no one's ever heard of 'em bands you could throw at me) AND pretty much all Deathcore... including Suicide Silence and As Blood Runs Black and [insert generic deathcore band here]. Shocking, I know.
