Father John Misty: Pure Comedy

2017-01-25 by Sowing STAFF | 32 Comments
Father John Misty (Josh Tillman) has released the eponymous lead single for his upcoming third LP, Pure Comedy. The title track speculates on the plight, irony, and hypocrisy of human life from a third-person perspective. The video for the single features several references to religion and politics, but packs an even more all-encompassing message for its listeners and viewers.

Pure Comedy is slated for an April 7, 2017 release.

Kind of similar to 'Bored in the USA' but it hasn't grown on me to the level of that track quite yet. This was already discussed in the I Love You Honeybear thread but didn't have an official news post.

His singer songwriter style hasn't really been prevalent in popular music for a long time

What if he genuinely wants to make political music?

And since when does music have to be genuine (in a truthfulness sense), isn't it as much about putting on a show and displaying passion more than anything else? I mean God knows death metal bands and hair metal bands aren't being serious when they talk about murder and getting sexual favors from under age girls...... sure he uses his moniker to express certain views, but isn't most satire presented through fictitious/extravagant ways?

Always excited to hear what this guy has to say in his music. Don't know anything about how he is in his personal life and I'd rather not know.

This song made me realize one of the things that annoys me about this guy, his songs are so damn wordy. I'll still check the album, but I'm not expecting to be wowed.

'that or Mr. Tillman has gotten too big for his britches'

Some of his speeches during his sets turn me off. I hope he's not a complete egomaniac on this release. Past work has been a hard 4 - 4.5

The song is alright but after this slog of an election I'm so burnt out on political music. Maybe I'll enjoy it more when the album drops in April.
