Black Sabbath Cancel New Album

2015-12-10 by Benjamin Kuettel EMERITUS | 67 Comments
It doesn't look good for those eager to hear a follow-up to Black Sabbath's triumphant comeback record 13 from 2013. Their first album in nearly twenty years proved to be a massive success, charting #1 in the United States, a first for the band's 40+ year existence. In the heat of these successes, the following year saw announcements firing from all cylinders of Black Sabbath band members that a triumphant final album and massive tour would be on its way in the coming two years before they retire. While the tour seems to still be on, recent statements from band members don't seem to point to a new album being made to promote it.

While further tour dates have been announced, including United States locations, frontman Ozzy Osbourne believes that people aren't interested in hearing another Sabbath album, and that a final tour might be all that's coming before the group retires. The Ozzman also stated that another record would take 3-4 years to complete, while he would rather wrap everything up much sooner. Tony Iommi revealed that he has written many riffs and has plenty of songs ready to make into an album, but states that Geezer Butler did not seem keen on the idea of a new album any more.

The Ozzman also stated that he plans to create another solo album and embark on a subsequent tour to support it soon, most likely after Sabbath has fully retired.

I think 13 is a good enough swansong for the band. Lets them finish with Ozzy, as they started (although it would've been nice to have Bill involved too), and with a critically praised album. It's not really worth risking the mid 80s/early 90s rut that they'd previously ended with (nobody needs another "Forbidden" although we'll probably get a remaster if Tony has his way).

This is kinda old news, but I guess it needed to be said here. It's kinda sad to here that the band that recorded Black Sabbath in one day would expect to take years to make another album. Maybe it's just age, who knows

They records the debut in 1 day? Did this include Wicked World or not?

Also I'm a bit disappointed, but hey I still haven't gotten to 13 so whatever...

And Bowie's the exception to the rule AND he's one guy. He doesn't need to rely on his drummer or bassist being as healthy as him to record, he can hire the best session musician in an instant. He works at his pace and nobody else's. Sabbath can only work as fast as the weakest chain and it only takes 1 or 2 members being chronically ill, not feeling well, having family emergencies or deciding just to live life in old age to make recording an album a process that could take years.

All these David Bowie comparisons are pointless, he transcended the status of a human being when he released Blackstar.

I mean the tour dates were announced before but this article about Ozzy was published yesterday, at the very least that was news. I never heard anything before about the album being cancelled, on here or otherwise so I thought it deserved a news article.
I was bummed when I found this out, but on the bright side it keeps the harmony of ending 13 with the weather atmospheres that began the first Black Sabbath album, nice sense of completion for their career. I'm definitely hoping to catch them on tour when they come to Mass.

lol it was a middle school nickname and I couldn't think of anything else at the time, it also seemed fitting to me since I was very into metal back then. I still like it but have thought about changing it a lot ever since, but can't decide on anything else. User Feather also recommended that I keep it, since he realized that changing his name made a lot of people not know who he was around here anymore.

terrible idea Zaruyache, that failed quickly the first time, if these guys cant get it together, they should be done with the Sabbath name before the legacy gets hurt more than what the 80's did to it

they came through last time and i missed them which i regret terribly so i hope they come back

yeah hopefully those riffs/songs(?) Iommi has will find a way to be recorded and released at some point, if Butler and Osbourne really don't have it in them to come together and make a 13 follow-up. A few Black Sabbath albums beginning with Seventh Star could be argued as being Iommi solo albums as well.

These guys aren't obligated to make music for us js. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't. As long as it ends on a high note then that's all that matters.
