Jeff Loomis joins Arch Enemy

2014-11-17 by Gameofmetal EMERITUS | 30 Comments
Guitarist Jeff Loomis (of Nevermore and his own solo work fame) has joined melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. Loomis has replaced guitarist Nick Cordle, and will be playing with the band on all tours through 2015.

There is no certain news that Loomis will be a permanent member, but judging from the the band's Facebook post, that possibility very much remains one.

Maybe that's the kick in the butt this band needs to get up to speed.

Sounds like it could be really interesting as long as he turns out to be a full member for the next album.

If they work on new material, this will be very interesting.

"USA fans will be able to catch a special reunion as Christopher Amott (the brother of ARCH ENEMY founder/bandleader Michael Amott) has joined the band for the remainder of their American headlining tour."

WELL THAT DIDN'T LAST LONG AT ALL. Jesus people, pick a line-up and actually stick with it for more than five minutes. Never listened to much Nevermore, but I sort of doubt at this point that Lumis will be able to bring this band back. Two new members didn't stop War Eternal from being the most generic cookie-cutter melodeath album I've heard in a long time, so I have my doubts that Amott will let this new blood actually write any riffs. :/ We'll see.

If there's anything that could help this band stop sucking, it'd be a veteran musician like this. He just needs to get in and actually force the band to collaborate in their songwriting. And by "their" I mean "Amott's."

wow 13 year old me would be going crazy over this right now

arch enemy's wages of sin and nevermore's this godless endeavor were some of the first extreme metal CD's i ever owned, and jeff loomis was god to me in middle school.

Doubt he'll be a permanent member tbh, prolly just for touring purposes

This guy could play Arch songs in his sleep.

If Loomis is permanent and helps with the songwriting for the next album then it could be a genuinely interesting project. Michael knows he missed a trick not staying in the Carcass reunion and hopefully knows he has to pick up his game.

Wtf...
overqualified much? This could be cool if it it works out long enough for an album.

Well this was unexpected. Could actually be very intersting if Ammott just lets him work in the songwriting department for the next album. If not, it's pretty much a huge waste

Watch Loomis leave after one album, too

TBH if Loomis can help in the music department and they let Alissa handle lyrics it could be a really cool album.

I don't think the quality of the lyrics will affect how boring the riffs are.

"I don't think the quality of the lyrics will affect how boring the riffs are."

I dunno man I'm the vocalist/lyricist for one of my bands and sometimes when I write lyrics I have to propose changes to structure/new riffs to go in to accommodate them. But maybe that's just my band's songwriting process.

Waste of talent. This won't change the bands sound since it's still The Michael Amott band......I mean Arch Enemy.

come to think of it AE have done thrashy stuff before, so maybe Loomis *will* be able to muscle in a little, or give Amott some subliminal incentive to try some thrashy stuff again.
