Top 18 Os 2013

It's hard for me to listen to enough albums enough times in a year to make some extensive list as I'm still working on figuring out my own tastes, but here's my favorite 18 albums from 2013.
18Beach Fossils
Clash the Truth

I'm not usually a fan of this punky, dreamy, indie rock that has been huge for a few years now, but I really enjoyed this album. A really easy and quick listen.
17Clothes
Clothes

This album went completely unnoticed this year as it was just some random dude on Bandcamp, but I fell in love with this album. I love the lyrics and melodies. This album could easily be justified to be higher on the list.
16Steven Wilson
The Raven that Refused to Sing

I was actually a bit disappointed with this album. Luminol and The Holy Drinker were the only tracks that really hit me hard. The rest of the album is a bit average to me. Still enjoy this album quite a bit.
15Bring Me the Horizon
Sempiternal

Another big surprise. I had previously thought BMTH was just another garbage scenecore band, which their other albums pretty much are, but I truly enjoy this album. Some of the tracks are really childish and cringe-worthy, but others are great, especially Can You Feel My Heart and Hospital For Souls
14Run the Jewels
Run the Jewels

From the moment the beat drops on the first track of this album I knew I'd love it. It isn't a totally consistent album, but the highlights on it are fantastic.
13Tim Hecker
Virgins

This is not my usual kind of music. Ambient music usually just isn't my thing, but Virgins clicked with me for some reason. Absolutely emotional and just eerie.
12Coheed and Cambria
The Afterman: Descension

This album got a lot of negative reviews and I have no idea why. It isn't quite as good as Ascension in my opinion but it's still a solid album. Gravity's alone makes this thing worth at least a 3/5.
11Captain, We're Sinking
The Future is Cancelled

Thank you John Hanson! Another album just out of nowhere. A nice blend of pop-punk, emo, post-hardcore, etc.
10My Bloody Valentine
m b v

It's been 5ever since they released something and I was not disappointed one bit.
9Deafheaven
Sunbather

I don't like bandwagons, but this album is undeniably remarkable. Emotional chaos.
8Gorguts
Colored Sands

Before 2013 I had virtually no knowledge if death metal at all. And the explosion of love for this album on here was a huge reason for me getting more into it. I've never heard an album, even within the death metal genre, quite like this.
7Norma Jean
Wrongdoers

A very, very pleasant surprise. I wouldn't have even given this thing a chance if it weren't for the positive review it received on here. Excellent metalcore album.
6A Lot Like Birds
No Place

On the first few listens to this I was disappointed and I thought "Good god what is this trash?" But after listening to it more it has grown on me a lot. ALLB really transforms their sound from album to album, but damn they are consistent, and quite possibly one of the best bands of the past decade.
5Foxing
The Albatross

Pretty much the same as Whenever, If Ever, simply solid emo album. Feels man.
4The World is a Beautiful Place...
Whenever, If Ever

This album isn't particularly inventive or original, but it's simply a solid emo/post-rock blend. A huge highlight of this new wave of emo.
3Candy Claws
Ceres and Calypso in the Deep Time

A must for any shoegazers out there. Shoegaze can be an inconsistent genre, and this album has given the genre a huge boost in my opinion. This album has become one of my all time favorite shoegaze albums. It blends tropical, bubbly fuzz with breathy, dream-pop vocals beautifully.
2There Will Be Fireworks
The Dark, Dark Bright

Out of nowhere! Thank you J. Ponton, because this album is absolutely beautiful! I'm not a huge post-rock fan but this blew me away, and it manages to give me chills on every listen.
1Queens of the Stone Age
...Like Clockwork

What a comeback. This album took a bit to grow on me, but wow, not a bad track on this thing. One of my favorite albums of the decade so far.
