No Station to Station tracks? (I know 4/6 of the tracks are big songs for him.. but the other 2?) Also lame pick for Lodger lol
Though good job putting the 2 best songs on Diamond Dogs and the best song from Space Oddity on here : ) |
Frippertronics
01.17.16 | it was originally meant to be on Ziggy but was cut shortly before it went out to be pressed.
18. Word on a Wing
red sails is better than repetition this is fact |
ArsMoriendi
01.17.16 | "it was originally meant to be on Ziggy but was cut shortly before it went out to be pressed."
Cool, I'm gonna check it later today
"18. Word on a Wing"
Must've missed that lol
"red sails is better than repetition this is fact"
Don't agree, but also don't consider either one of the best. Needs "African Night Flight" and "Move On" in my opinion.

DoofusWainwright
01.17.16 | I agree with so much of this, great list
What's the deal with Crystal Japan sounding so much like NIN 'a warm place' btw? |
ArsMoriendi
01.17.16 | A Warm Place samples it I believe. |
DoofusWainwright
01.17.16 | It samples it to the point you feel 'writing credit?'
I'd listened to TDS for years and loved A Warm Place rating it one of my favourite songs....then a few years later heard Crystal Japan and was really shocked.
It's more an instrumental cover version than just a sample |
zakalwe
01.17.16 | Jareth: You remind me of the babe.
Goblin: What babe?
Jareth: The babe with the power.
Goblin: What power?
Jareth: The power of voodoo.

Frippertronics
01.18.16 | *outtake
but ye i guess it's gonna be me/crystal japan/alabama song> |
Rowan5215
01.18.16 | Is there a difference between a b-side and an outtake cos I don't think there is
Who Can I Be Now > It's Gonna Be Me tho |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | Splutter! Is there a difference??
Insolence!!! |
Tunaboy45
01.18.16 | The Laughing Gnome still gets me |
Rowan5215
01.18.16 | zak is this seriously something you care about it's just terminology you codger |
Frippertronics
01.18.16 | rowman, that is true tbh idk there is a reason they call it a b-side and some are ain't a b-side but who cares it's outdated terminology |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | INSOLENCE!!!!!! |
Rowan5215
01.18.16 | explain this spluttering zak |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | A 'b-side' is a tune tacked onto a 'lead' single and is usually thought of as instrumental or experimental, or throwaway fodder to bulk out the package but it has offered up some of the greatest tunes of all time. Strawberry Fields being the b-side to Penny Lanes A side. Flip the vinyl, play the second side of the tape A/B. The term was still used for the extra tunes on a CD single.
An outtake is exactly that. It's a take of an individual song that didn't make the final cut. |
MrSirLordGentleman
01.18.16 | I've lost all hope that somebody besides me loves Somebody Up There Likes Me |
Rowan5215
01.18.16 | so in other words an outtake is a song that didn't make the final cut, and a b-side is, uh, a song that didn't make the final cut |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | No. An outtake is a version of a song that made the final cut. A b-side is a completley new tune that more often than not isn't included on the album. |
ArsMoriendi
01.18.16 | A b-side is a type of outtake that is put after a single. Pretty simple in my opinion. |
ArsMoriendi
01.18.16 | Sometimes songs that make the album are b-sides though. Like how "Andy Warhol" is the b-side to "Changes" |
Rowan5215
01.18.16 | so by that logic I was correct in calling Some Are a b-side, coolio |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | INSOLENCE!!!! splutter. |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | Some tunes are made solely to slap on as a b-side. Oasis were renowned for churning them out and they were of a quality that bettered a lot of the stuff on their albums. Acquiesce, Masterplan, Headshrinker, Stay Young.
Technically an outtake can be put on the b-side and would be referred to as a b-side but it wasn't really a b-side.....or maybe I'm just talking out of my b-side. |
ArsMoriendi
01.18.16 | Dude I think a b-side is literally just any song that's on a single that isn't the single itself. It can be an outtake, an album track, or even a track from an earlier album (which happens sometimes) |
ArsMoriendi
01.18.16 | Hell "Move On" from Lodger was the b-side for "Ashes to Ashes" |
zakalwe
01.18.16 | I know dudes, I'm only messin but you had b-sides and then you had B-sides.
50s,60s,70s,80s,90s >
|
ArsMoriendi
01.18.16 | That was more for Rowan, he seemed to actually be confused about it. |
Rowan5215
01.18.16 | I wasn't confused at all just trying to point out that they're pretty much the same thing |
Frippertronics
01.18.16 | But are they really? |
ArsMoriendi
01.18.16 | I don't think so. |
someguest
01.18.16 | Or you know, you could listen to the complete albums as intended. |
Frippertronics
01.18.16 | But dude, some people don't have time for full albums didn't you know? |
someguest
01.18.16 | You don't have time, you make it. |
Frippertronics
01.18.16 | That comment was more of a jab at someone else. |
someguest
01.18.16 | I know it wasn't aimed at me. I never take "I don't have time" as an excuse for anything. If something means enough to you, you'll make the time. Be honest with yourself. You're not devoted enough to sit down and listen to an album front to back. And if you feel like a second rate critic wording it that way then maybe you should be more honest with yourself more often. |
Frippertronics
01.18.16 | Gonna be honest, you're losing me with this rant of yours. Also, I had zero clue that a person has little devotion if they're legitimately busy to the point where they can't devote 40 minutes to an album. You're taking this a bit too seriously, buddy boi. |
someguest
01.18.16 | Yeah, it's a statement that rubs me the wrong way. |
Frippertronics
01.18.16 | I feel that. Had some guy on facebook tell people to "stop crying, it won't get us anywhere" and five minutes later post a self-obsessed post about how he doesn't want to hear or see any bowie while out shopping cos it "would break my little heart"
now that doesn't just rub me the wrong way, that's just being a self-obsessed cunt |
