Aoty

I've listened to so much music from '13. I never thought I'd pick a QOTSA album as my aoty, but ...Like Clockwork is the album I keep coming back to. Every song is excellent and the album gets a strong 5/5 from me. I personally think it is their best yet. Ranked -
1Queens of the Stone Age
...Like Clockwork

"Smooth Sailing" - 5/5 - is easily the most cocky song I have ever heard. The lyrics
are 'up in your face', the guitar work is catchy, and the drums are thumping.
"Smooth Sailing" is a kick-ass song all over.

"If I Had A Tail" - 5/5 - Quirky and fun, this song is layered with haunting vocals
and lyrics that still make me chuckle. The "ooo" portion of the song after the
second chorus is an excellent listen and my favorite part of the song.

"I Sat By The Ocean" - 4.7/ - The only downfall of this track is the slightly
repetitive hook. Though repetitive, it is ALSO extremely catchy and I don't mind it
at all. In my opinion, this song should've been the first single released from the LP.

"I Appear Missing" - 4.3/5 - This song definitely grew on me. The penultimate is
lengthy and awe-inspiring. The guitar work here is fantastic.

"The Vampyre of Time and Space" - 4/5 - The first of the ballads begins with
mellow piano and is soon joined by a softly-plucked bass and nice drum beat.
Homme's lyrics standout the most here, for me, on the album.

"Fairweather Friends" - 4/5 - Elton John's piano part and backing vocals are strong
features, as his gentle hammering turns the track into a majestic rock song.
7Queens of the Stone Age

"Kalopsia" - 4/5 - Beginning softly, then spiking with intensity, this song doesn't
quite fit the layout of the other songs. When it starts, you wonder if it'll ever pick
up. When it does, it's super satisfying.
8Queens of the Stone Age

"...Like Clockwork" - 3.7/5 - The second of the two ballads, this closer is piano-
driven like "The Vampyre..." and contains thought-provoking lyrics. It leaves me
wanting something a bit more, yet I can still feel like the finish line has been
crossed when Josh notifies us that "It's all down hill from here."

"My God Is The Sun" - 3.7/5 - The first single from the LP, this song was great
when it first came out, but has remained my 'least-listened-to-track' since I got
ahold of the whole thing. It is radio-friendly and full of power, but the album offers
much better.
10Queens of the Stone Age

"Keep Your Eyes Peeled" - 3.7/5 - The opener starts with a rough bass line that
stomps along with Homme's floaty vox. Although it is my least favorite on the
album, it is still solid. It adequately sets the mood for a broodingly, dark, and
haunting album.
