| Shows I Saw In 2012
well i saw 7 shows this year, would've seen more but i was grounded for most of the first half of the year for smokin pot. here they are | | 1 | corrosion of conformity w/ torche, black cobra, gaza
at the masq in atlanta, cheap show and fun as fuck. couldve fucked a fat 40 year old cause i wore farewell to kings shirt and this drunk bitch was flirting with me. i wouldnt have been able to get it up though. anyway, i know people dig gaza but i thought they were lame, lots of passion and shit but damn did they sound shitty. black cobra was cool, torche was a lot of fun and obviously COC kicked ass cause they played mostly shit off of animosity, and thrash > that fuckin southern groove bullshit they did in the 90s. also they covered hand of doom | | 2 | iron maiden w/ alice cooper
obv this ruled hard, alice cooper was cool enough but made the mistake of playing any song after 1975, no one wants to hear that shit. plus michael jackson's guitar bitch looks kinda retarded when she's out there all cooper-fied. you know, make up and shit. it was ok though. then maiden came on and fucked everyone's dicks, highlights include the prisoner, 2 minutes to midnight, aces high, seventh son, hell whole show fucking ruled except afraid to shoot strangers is a horrible song, shouldbe played hallowed be thy name or hell fuckin STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND or a deep cut from the vault instead. not some fear of the dark era shit. amazing show though. also got fried with a mexican dude | | 3 | yes w/ procol harum
no im not confusing this year with 1972, i saw yes and procol harum in july. procol harum was boring as hell and not a good pair for yes, i dont understand why camel or van der graaf or hell even marillion couldnt support em instead. anyway procol did play 2 or 3 good songs though. then yes came on and surprisingly sounded pretty fuckin good, they managed to make fly from here actually sound cool. they played heart of the sunrise, awaken, and even a bit from tales from topographic oceans which was neat. these fuckers can fuckin play. crowd was pretty small though, venue holds 12000 and id say 500-800 people were there. but yes didnt even care. i will say this - geoff downes needs his ass beat for being so sloppy sometimes. that dumbfuck triggered a sample of ive seen all good people during awaken and i got pissed and started shouting WE WANT WAKEMAN but no one would join me. ok i made that up but he did fuck up during the song | | 4 | saint vitus w/ weedeater, sourvein, order of the owl
k so as soon as we get inside i meet wino at the merch stand and get a pic with him. order of the owl's a local band, i guess theyre sludge or doom or some shit, its all the same to me. they were cool though and their bassist looks like rasputin or some shit. not the sput user but the person. sourvein was fun sludge, weedeater was really fun cause dixie collins was drinkin jim bean and was obviously on crank (wino was on crank too but i'll get into that later). anyway vitus stole the show for me, but sadly many people left before vitus because their excellent brand of doom is way different from that stupid FUCK YEAH FUCKERS LETS GROOVE AND SMOKE WEED shit that the dumb atlanta audience favors. anyway vitus played all the classics but were clearly annoyed that the most energetic people in the crowd were me and my friend johnny. wino did hold the microphone in my face though and we sang born too late together which was a great moment. after the show, wino was hanging around and johnny got him to sign his diabetes pump. my mom took me to the show and her and wino got to talking, and then wino took mom backstage. so me and johnny go backstage to look around a bit. we meet sourvein and we also encounter most of weedeater but we dont say anything cause dealing with people on meth is hard if you're not on meth too. anyway, we go chill at the tour bus area and we're waiting on mom. in the meantime we see brent from mastodon, an atlanta native, acting really fucked up with weedeater. we dont even approach him, even though i did used to like mastodon a lot. anyway we meet dave chandler in the meantime, he's like man i dunno where wino is but your mom will turn up. then wino and my mom show up a bit later, i really hope she fucked him cause fucking wino would be sweet. but anyway wino lets us get on the tour bus and we just fuckin hang out with saint vitus smokin weed drinking beer and talking about music, motorcycles, sex, drugs, all that shit. best weed i ever smoked. plus dont believe me? got pics to prove it | | 5 | morbid angel w/ dark funeral, grave
after that last story its hard to top it but this was fun too. got so fuckin drunk that i actually sat down during morbid angel's set and dozed off for a few minutes. anyway grave was ok, dark funeral was hilarious and pretty fun to see, and morbid angel were dressed like gay fairy vampires but damn did they fuckin rock! it was heavy as fuck, i remember like 5 songs though. | | 6 | dinosaur jr w/ shearwater
queerwater was gay indie shit. my 2nd time seein dino jr, i moved up about 3 feet from j mascis, it was amazing. great setlist with forget the swan, wagon, sludgefeast, all your favorite dino hits. only prob was sometimes guitar obscured the vocals, so next time i see dino i plan on backing the fuck up and maybe gettin on lou's side or just enjoying from a distance cause the variety playhouse in atlanta sounds excellent no matter where you are. also wore my saint vitus shirt, met a dude who saw vitus open for black flag. i love people. | | 7 | rush
best show to end the year on, and easily the best performance of the year. since they're about dead pretty much, i feel like they've been trying to make this the best tour possible. geddy's voice sounded excellent, way better than on the time machine tour. in fact he hasnt sounded this good since probably roll the bones or maybe even presto (i know this not from seeing those tours but from countless bootlegs). anyway great setlist and rare occasion when the new shit actually stole the show for me. clockwork angels is their best album since power windows and it really showed here, they gave it their all. i think theyve been doing cocaine again or SOMETHING cause they were just way too energetic. it fuckin ruled. plus me and johnny got fried and got jack daniels too, we went fuckin crazy | |
