| Alestorm vs. Swashbuckle
A battle between two of the most well known pirate metal bands. | 1 | | Alestorm Black Sails at Midnight
First up is Alestorm, which is perhaps the most popular pirate metal band. Alestorm's music can be summed up as folk metal with dashes of power metal here and there. The songs are filled with quirky, melody driven keyboard lines that incorporate different old time instruments. The bands also makes use of heavy guitar riffs and slightly gritty vocals. Out of the two bands, Alestorm are probably the most 'happy' sounding band. | 2 | | Swashbuckle Back To The Noose
Up next is Swashbuckle, which is probably not as well known as Alestorm, but still somewhat popular. Swashbuckle's music can be summed up as fast paced thrash metal and occasional soft acoustic interludes. The band almost never uses keyboards, and instead keeps the thrash aspect of their band as the driving force. The vocals showcase a more guttural style of singing as opposed to Alestorm. You might even hear a few death metal growls as well. Out of the two bands, Swashbuckle are probably the most 'in your face' band. | 3 | | Alestorm Back Through Time
Both bands have some pretty cool album covers, too. | 4 | | Swashbuckle Crime Always Pays...
In the end, I believe both bands win.
Both Alestorm and Swashbuckle have taken the concept of pirate metal and crafted it into a style that is unique to each band. However, this is Sputnikmusic... There are never any ties when it comes to bands around here. So go ahead and comment about which band you like more. Or, if you hate pirate metal, just gripe about how crappy both bands are. | |
