05.02.22 | I remember this type of thread!
For "I Have the Body of John Wilkes Booth":
The bass is cool, but I do not like these weird vocals, especially not that screaming. The drums are guitar is fine enough though. I'll give it a 3/5
Gonna use this thread to push Melody's Echo Chamber even more lmao:

05.02.22 | Claiming this next one but i'm also listening to an 18 minute song so gimme a little bit to finish my song review for you Ars.
"Awakening from the Dream of Existence to the Multidimensional Nature of Our Reality (Mirror of the Soul)" by Blood Incantation
Sorry to whoever reviews my song lmao |
pjquinones747
05.02.22 | Mind you I haven't reviewed a damn thing on this site for years so excuse my rust.
For "Alma_The Voyage":
I find this very soothing. I love the swooning melodies and the Khruangbin-esque rhythm section. The whole thing gives me a modernized 70s rock 'n roll vibe with guitarwork reminiscent of Jimmy Page and an epic string section. You can tell the structure of the song was meticulously arranged by the way it builds from piano/vocals at the start and adds guitar, drums, string section, and bass gradually. By clocking in just under 7 minutes it feels like a whole adventure! 4/5 track
Thanks for this recommendation Ars! |

god of wine - 3eb |
anode
05.02.22 | God of wine - nice song really well put together. A little soft for my taste but about as good as alt rock can get so 4/5
Norma Jean - Discipline your daughters |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.02.22 | God of Wine - only knew Losing A Whole Year from these guys and assumed they were a band-long soundtrack to moping around suburbanly and thinking about taking up alcohol as a replacement for unrequited love and/or wasted youth. This song has not changed my mind, but it is pretty great. Feel bad for not having heard it now :[
TAKE II: Norma Jean - Discipline Your Daughters. Wow extremely sus title - will assume that this is a concept album and that there's a good christian reason for it that transcends the vocalist's nostril screaming. Not a fan of the lead guitarist either; he needs to pipe down. Cool noisemess bridge. Would have lapped this up 10ish years ago. Hmpf

There's better harsh noise/pe out there but this is pretty intriguing. Points for obscurity too 5/10

Avagantamos
05.02.22 | Gillian Welch - Red Clay Halo 3/10
the guitar plucking was ok. that's about it. can't stand acoustic stuff generally, and i had to bite down on a log to get through the singing.

05.02.22 | Don’t see any takers so I’ll double post cause I like this topic
Red clay halo - I’m kinda upset I had to listen through this since I’m not going through a mid life crisis. Seems like a perfectly nice country song that I’ve heard iterated maybe 100 times but this one has some quality no doubt 3/5
Rosetta - blue day for croatoa |
parksungjoon
05.02.22 | blue day for croatoa is one of the best most memorable rosetta songs fuck yea |
Avagantamos
05.02.22 | rosetta is dope. I mostly just liked their first 2 albums though
jedi mind tricks - genghis khan (feat. tragedy khadafi) |
anode
05.02.22 | Omg so glad someone agrees. That ending is one of my favorite things ever |
anode
05.02.22 | Wow avag I was waiting for someone to post for like 3 hours and then right as I post you do too. Guess I’ll wait another 3 hours and if no one picks up the thread I will lol |
ConcubinaryCode
05.03.22 | I've listened to the jedi mind song before but it is still a great song after listening again. Khadafi's verse is terrific and it's a banger track in general but I prefer the moodier tracks off VbD like the deer hunter or I against I. It's hard to go wrong with any song off the album though.

someone
05.15.22 | well the last rec above was Saor - Origins from Gnocchi, so i'll check that.
the song is a standard epic bm with some lovely melodic structures. i've been messing with Saor's music every now and again. liked this one enough, probs will have to check the album too.
3.5/5
here's my song https://youtu.be/K6wkHpwS54Y Bobbi Humphrey - Black and Blues |
someone
05.15.22 | wait, just noticed there are other recs too. so in brief:
Meshuggah - Phantoms: moderately bad-ish ass. okay track. maybe full album's high-octane energy will change my mind later on, but as a standalone, i don't care that much. 3/5
planes mistaken for stars - clean up mean: throwback music that's quite nice. 3.5/5 |
DadKungFu
05.15.22 | Lol dead thread. That Bobbi Humphrey song is lit though 4/5
PJ Harvey - One Line
