Top Albums Of 1989
Last list of 10, going to 20 for the rest |
10 | | Obituary Slowly we Rot
It was between this and Altars of Madness for the number 10 spot. I went with this because I find it was a bit more original than Altars, and I like Tardy's vocals on this more than Vincent's on Altars. |
9 | | Atheist Piece of Time
One of the best jazz death metal albums, this one is a classic. |
8 | | NWA Straight Outta Compton
This highly controversial album is one of gangsta rap's best offerings. Dr. Dre completely outdoes himself as producer, and both Eazy E and Ice Cube shine. |
7 | | Miles Davis Aura
Another fantastic fusion offering from Miles Davis, this guy very well might have been the greatest musical visionary of the 20th century. |
6 | | Bathory Blood Fire Death
I used to be a huge Black metal fan. Now I can barely stand it, but some albums I still really enjoy. This is one of them. Quorthon got away from the shitty production, overuse of blast beats, and annoying vocals and created something highly artistic. |
5 | | Godflesh Streetcleaner
This album does exactly what it sets out to do. You listen and all you can think of is a big massive dystopian wasteland full of massive ominous grey buildings and an underlying feeling of suffer. Justin Broadrick hits a home run. |
4 | | Faith no More The Real Thing
I'm a huge Patton fan, and this is my second favourite Faith no More album. It's got some weaker tracks, but songs like Zombie Eaters, The Real Thing, and Woodpeckers From Mars nullify the weaker tracks. |
3 | | Devil Doll The Girl Who Was...Death
Devil Doll is awesome. I love this album, maybe more so than his other stuff. The violin solo is so good. |
2 | | The Pixies Doolittle
Never understood why people said Nirvana was basically The Pixies. Maybe their earlier stuff, I don't know. This is definitely my favourite album of theirs though, it's so good. So many good songs. Debaser is one of the best opening tracks of all time. |
1 | | Bad Religion No Control
The definitive hardcore album, every song on this album is incredible. They didn't touch this album with anything before or after. |
