Rnd 1: Taco's Annihilation Recommendation Nation

*SLIGHT RULE CHANGES* waddup So i need recs in and ive been told sput can help. So basically i'll give a genre and you guys give me recs. Ill jam said recs and whoever's rec i like the least will not move on to the next round. Whats the next round you ask? Why another genre of course. In order to start this all off i'm asking for anything and i'll randomly pick 25 contenders (technically 23 bc uniqueuniverse and con sparked the idea in me and have reserved spots). The first 8 rounds will be SONGS not albums and there will be double eliminations. Who ever makes it to the end of the game will be crowned "Ultimate Rec-Bro." by none other than your favorite sputnik lurker nobody! Ill give each rec due respect by writing a blurb or something and give a rating out of 5. I am aware this will take a long ass time but im down to give it a shot. Keep my pleb taste in mind while rec'ing and rec wisely fam. Entries will end in like 2 days i guess

PRELIMINARY ROUND

Pick any song you want that you think ill dig and ill choose 25 random contestants
leggo

please be generous with your song lengths, anything under 9 minutes would be okay

Blank Generation

"Blank Generation"

Great amount of energy on this. The sloppy guitar work does indeed help the track and give it some character. I've never been too much of an old school punk enthusiast but the song certainly makes me interested in jamming the album. Its one of those songs you can tell would be really fun live.

"Білі вогні Хаунебу"

The few people who actually know me on this site are probs pretty aware i'm not too big on black metal. With that said, i went in jamming this with an open mind, and definitely didn't hate it. The atmosphere is cold and the vox are nice.

"We Stand to Fight"

Very no bullshit heavy metal from 85. Great performances all around and the solo at the 2:30 mark is awesome. Doesn't try to be anything more than it is but what it does, it does well. My only issue is that metal like this never has much lasting power with me and naturally leaves more to be desired if i’m looking for something extra special.

"Mattresses Underwater"

Really nice song here. What seems to help it the most is the vocal delivery and increase in aggressive outbursts as the song moves forward, until finally hitting a climax in the last minute. 3.9/5, would start chanting the end lyrics in the vocalist’s face at an overpacked venue in the city.

"In the Androgynous Dark"

A lovely jam for those late night walks in the city or a rainy day. The track is both dark, but hopeful. On the surface, the song relies mostly on a simple yet elegant piano lick but there is indeed some sparingly used guitar to bring the song to greater heights.

A Season In Your Soul

superluminals

"Days Beginning at Lunch Time"

The song, while only just breaking the 4 minute mark, does a good job of feeling larger than it is. Jams like these are all about atmosphere and the track is certainly much more successful and nostalgic than the majority of similar artists you’ll find in bandcamp’s wonderful trash heap known as the “discover- ambient” section. It’s an amorphous drone/ambient song that feels like gazing into the void. A colorful void tho.

"Some How"

Delicate, twinkley, and mostly instrumental. Vocals are used very minimally, but i believe it helps add a little variety to the song. You won't find any catchy hooks here but you will find a earnest and pretty math/post rock track. I will say tho that there is something that feels missing, im not sure what it is but perhaps listening to the whole album would help.

"Over the Moon"

Damn, this one vibes pretty hard. Big fan of the repeated lyric section of the song. The “stop and go” structure makes for a really fun time and the instrumentation is super tight and effective. Shame the band only has one LP.

"The Break of Autumn"

I’m no good at descriptions so i'll just let this very informative, totally unbiased, gatekeeping youtube commentor do one for me.
“Absolute masterpiece.
If you don't think this is a masterpiece, i'm sorry but you are a useless retarded walking piece of shit, with no clue about good music.”

"Approximately 906 Miles [Live on the Mogollon Rim]"

I’m totally not gonna say i had a million hipster/local pub/XXXL shirt at H&M zingers when the video started playing but got confused when the song happened to be mad chill and smooth af and ended up liking it a good deal and am now conflicted on my hipster stereotyping cause that would be totally not true...totally...

"Golden Dawn"

Really sweet skramz song. Epic and brimming with emotional impact. The second half of the song is where it really shines. Great performances by every member of the band, big fan of the bass here.

"Forgotten Sons"

Someone i know is crazy into these guys and has been rec'ing me them for a while so seeing this was pretty cool. Its certainly a prog rock track through and through, keys and all, but a well made one. Its unsettling at times but beautiful at others. The slower portion of the song i think is where it stands out.

"Alone Again Or"

Kinda bummed i didnt love this as much as i thought i would. With that said, it’s still a pretty sweet tune. The trumpets are a great addition and the way they coexist with the vocal melodies is great. Its upbeat and fun and id recommend it to anyone who likes 60s folk/psych rock but i suppose I, personally, am not totally sold. A grower perhaps?

"Broken Tamagotchi"

Not totally sure on the vocals but everything else here is nice. The track feels honest and the drums are excellent. Color me intrigued boyo.

Created In The Image Of Suffering

Dewinged

"Hierophant"

Not what i was expecting based on that album cover. The track is a hypnotising and tragic piece of doomy shoegaze. The instruments feel massive but the female vocals are soft and gives the track an indescribable intensity. Apparently it's the same vocalist that was in Whirr before they sucked (srry not srry).

Avagantamos

"Painovoima/Gravity"

A nice meaty slab of electronic. The track is thick and unforgiving but bumps your speakers pretty hard. The song varies just enough with static and background noise on top of the primary rhythm to keep you on the edge of your seat but deadly focused.

Brutalism

UniqueUniverse

"Mother"

My post punk game is near non existent (i've never been too big a fan). Despite this, this song was actually pretty fun and may have been just what i needed to get me started with looking for more jams like it. I was certainly a fan of the repetitious lyrical approach and vox themselves. The song kicks it into high gear pretty fast and is bursting with energy.

"The World Covered in Purple Shrouds"

This one was interesting. Some brass and female vox cascade over post hardcore and punk riffs making for a fun song. I feel something is slightly off with the production but overall, i liked it.

"Recorded in a Pyramid"

I can certainly see where IDYLLs got some influence. Love the guitar tone and vocal delivery. The song while not being overly complex in arrangement manages to capture a sense of chaos pretty well. Don't let the lack of “harsh vocals” fool you, the band is clearly able to be heavy with the best of em.

FullOfSounds

"Rejoice"

Folk and punk make for a good time. The track is fast and fun, the vocals are awful in a charming sort of way, and the small addition of brass was nice. I can't quite say i'm totally won over just yet though. Definitely a “gather round with your favorite friends and drunkenly sing the lyrics” type jam.

L4titudes

Aftur (Recurrence)

After struggling a great deal to find the damn song on youtube i was worried that it would disappoint, and thankfully it did not. Bass-y and teeming with life, the track never has a dull moment. I'm awful at describing electronic, but i do know when i like something, and i liked it.

Archelirion

"Cosey Mo"

Starts off pretty standard but picks up soon and ends strong. Nice to see some female vox in this genre. At one moment you're being pounded by impactful guitar and bass and the next you're being shot into space.
