ButteryBiscuitBass
04.17.13 | 1 is 1. Cool list. |

04.17.13 | The Last Temptation of Christ?
On The Ranking: I like Casino less than you do, and like The Last Temptation of Christ more than you do.
I cannot find the King of Comedy on dvd, and Alice doesn't live here anymore is very good too. Also Hugo kinda sucked, was pretty disappointed for being a Scorsese |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | How did Hugo suck? That comment baffles me. |
Inveigh
04.17.13 | Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are the only acceptable answers for #1 in my book
also I apparently like Gangs of New York a lot more than you do |
GuanoBumbershoot
04.17.13 | "How did Hugo suck? That comment baffles me."
Some people just can't get past the idea that it doesn't start with Joe Pesci stabbing someone to death. |

04.17.13 | I loved BIG PUN, the one and only son of Tony.
The Departed was good |
peaks40
04.17.13 | casino blows dude. taxi driver should be second. hugo rules. The Aviator was really good |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | The Departed isn't terrible. It's very close to ingenious.
And I didn't think Casino was even top 5 forever until I suddenly saw that it is Scorsese's
"epic.". It's a soap opera without the cheese. It's so much more delicately layered then all of
his other films, and it peels back those layers very slowly. I used to despise the pacing,
until.I finally realized that it is basically Scorsese's "Godfather." Deliberate, self indulgent,
and fucking gritty as fuck. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Lol Casino blows. It's one thing to say it's not your favorite, but to say it blows? You must have the attention span of a jack Russell terrier. |
peaks40
04.17.13 | what about the age of innocence? |
JackSparrow
04.17.13 | The Departed sucks? You must be a fucking retard. Pretty awesome ranking but I would put Departed, Goodfellas, and Last Temptation higher |
peaks40
04.17.13 | sorry casino doesn't blow but to scorsese standards it does, i found it to be a lot like goodfellas, i wouldn't rank it top 5 |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Age of Innocence is ruined by some terrible acting.
And Casino is nothing like Goodfellas. The narrative is different, and it doesn't play off as a biopic at all. It's still a gangster movie, but the style is completely different. |
MO
04.17.13 | top 5 is pretty much spot on very nice, scorsese is amazing
I have bringing out your dead sitting on my ps3 waiting to be watched, may do that today |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | The only reason The Departed won the Oscar was the Academy owed Marty a pity fuck. |
JackSparrow
04.17.13 | Have you ever seen the first episode of Boardwalk Empire that he directed? It's incredible. |
BigPleb
04.17.13 | Cape Fear is in Top 10. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Out of the mainstream directors, Scorsese and Tarantino are at the top by a mile. |
Zeneren
04.17.13 | cape fear and hugo should be higher
decent list though, i'd put taxi driver first personally |
ButteryBiscuitBass
04.17.13 | Kubrick all the way. |
MO
04.17.13 | ^^ and cronenburg bro |
NightProwler
04.17.13 | Awesome list, Scorsese is a amazing. My fav is probably the Departed, followed by Goodfellas and Raging Bull. At the moment, that is |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Really Lebowski? It's a remake that doesn't hold a candle to the original. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Kubrick is dead, and Cronenburg has been so inconsistent of late. |
BigPleb
04.17.13 | I loved it, one of my fave De Niro performances. |
ButteryBiscuitBass
04.17.13 | DeNiro is a nasty bastard in that film. |
BigPleb
04.17.13 | I mean that scene where he rapes that girl and bites her face is so disturbing.
Like TRULY disturbing. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Deniro is fantastic in it, no doubt, but have you seen Mitchum's performance in the original? Holy fuck...
|
NightProwler
04.17.13 | De Niro is the best actor of all time. Of cause he rocks in Cape Fear! |
peaks40
04.17.13 | @intotheshit Casino was saved by the acting for me.
here's my scorsese rank top 5:
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
Mean Streets
Goodfellas
Gangs of New York
I haven't seen the color of money yet or king of comedy |
peaks40
04.17.13 | as far as mainstream ya scorsese is my fav along with kubrick |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | I love DeNiro, but he's nowhere near the best of all time. I honestly think that title belongs to Brando or DDL. |
DominionMM1
04.17.13 | 7 and 15 are way too low. |
peaks40
04.17.13 | I love DeNiro, but he's nowhere near the best of all time. I honestly think that title belongs to Brando or DDL.(2) |

04.17.13 | also Jack Nicholson is one of my favorites. as far as a-listers |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | I love The Departed, but please give me any reason or reality where it outshines the top 6.
And if you haven't seen the original Cape Fear, then I wouldn't expect you to realize that Scorsese's version isn't even in his top ten |
BigPleb
04.17.13 | The Departed is basically a remake of Internal Affairs.
Very good movie. |
NightProwler
04.17.13 | " love DeNiro, but he's nowhere near the best of all time."
That's fair enough, everyone has a favorite actor - mine is just him. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | The Departed deserved the awards it received, but those awards should have been given to Marty at least 5 times before, and for better films. |
ButteryBiscuitBass
04.17.13 | Infernal Affairs is very good. |
peaks40
04.17.13 | ^ de niro is up there for me with DDL |
BigPleb
04.17.13 | Internal Affairs is superior though, if you haven't seen that I suggest you do. |
peaks40
04.17.13 | I have to watch the original cape fear |
DominionMM1
04.17.13 | raging bull and casino never really did as much for me as something like the departed.
as for cape fear, yes i've seen the original, but to me scorcese's version is so different that i really don't compare the two. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Favorite actor and best of all time are two different things. Pacino is my all time favorite, but he doesn't even touch Brando's work. |
peaks40
04.17.13 | ^ have you seen Brando in last tango? |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | One of his best roles. The movie itself was a bit too much for me, though. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Anyone notice how DiCaprio went from being an overrated shitty actor to near phenomenal after The Aviator? |
peaks40
04.17.13 | yep |
peaks40
04.17.13 | great directors can make average actors look good though |
BigPleb
04.17.13 | Goodfellas is so good, Pesci steals the show. |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Yeah, but DiCaprio has kept on improving, although I'm.not expecting much from Gatsby. |
peaks40
04.17.13 | ^^yep |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | Pesci steals everything he's in. Hell, he's the only reason to watch Gone Fishin' |
Killerhit
04.17.13 | Goodfellas. Never seen a better. |
NightProwler
04.17.13 | "Favorite actor and best of all time are two different things. Pacino is my all time favorite, but he doesn't even touch Brando's work."
This is Sputnik. I pretty much say "best album ever" to every Rush or Radiohead album. But I get your point |

04.17.13 | Should I make my Nicholson list one or tomorrow? |

04.17.13 | Cool list. Scorsese is one of my hero's. |

04.17.13 | The hardest part of being a filmmaker is not ripping him off |
peaks40
04.17.13 | This is Sputnik. I pretty much say "best album ever" to every Rush or Radiohead album. But I get your point (2) |
intotheshit
04.17.13 | There's a very distinct difference between ripping off and
paying homage. That's why I like Tarantino so much. Each
one of his movies are definitely an homage to his
inspirations. Django, for example, has Leone written all over
it yet Tarantino takes the style and breaks it down to give
you something that is all his own. |

04.17.13 | goodfellas > casino
goodfellas > everything tbh |

Rik VII
08.06.19 | He did a ton of really great films but I don't love any of them. I'm also very sour on Departed but not because I think it's not good. It didn't deserve a lot of what it got, especially the freaking AA for the script which copies Infernal Affairs, pretentiously adds three hundred curse words and robs the characters of every inch of ambiguity (which was the point of the whole original movie). Gah. Like I said, not a bad film, but a disservice. |
