Fave 2004 Albums

how are we doing everyone
10Plus-Tech Squeeze Box
Cartoom!

Ideas fly by every 10 seconds. Cartooom is a high-energy sugar rush that refuses to let up. Jumping with reckless abandon from style to style, this is an absolute treat on good headphones. If it were any longer, it could be grating - thankfully this clocks in at a short 28 minutes.

3.5/5
9Capsule (JPN)
SF-Sound Furniture

Just before their slide into electropop. SF is a classic early example of the bands work. From high energy jazzy-pop to bossanova to the smooth beats of Portable Airport, this is a great front to back listen.

3.5/5
8Deerhoof
Milk Man

Fun but a little scary. Like a haunted house, but twinklier.

4/5
7Pig Destroyer
Terrifyer

Nonstop brutal beatdown. Feels uneasy. Anxiety inducing. Good for a fright

4/5
6Green Day
American Idiot

Pop-punk is an oxymoron, right? Green Day stands tall at their peak with radio ready hook heavy hits and a surprising number of epics. (Two, which is just two more than any pop-punk album tends to have)

4/5
5Neurosis
The Eye Of Every Storm

Slow and cold, brooding, every move intentional and expertly placed. For feeling angy at the world.

4/5
4Beltaine
Rockhill

Beautiful celtic music on all accounts. Sounds crisp. Like touching grass or taking flight.

4/5
3Tokyo Jihen
Kyoiku

Jazzy J-Rock, tone all over the place. Ringo Shiina crows, shouts and sings her ass off on every track.

4/5
2The Go! Team
Thunder, Lightning, Strike

Playground music. You carry your youth with you. Playful harmonicas, xylophones, soul samples bring a sense of joy to your life through the speakers. It’s a collage, not necessarily in order - thunder, lightning strike. Anachronistic. Dawg I love this band so fuckin much

4/5
1Soundtrack (Video Game)
Katamari Damacy soundtrack

To pigeonhole it, shibuya-kei. But it feels so much bigger than that. It is action packed, it is sweet, it is tense, it is silly, it is tender, and somehow it’s all ‘video game music’. Jazz, lounge, rock, electro-pop - it’s a little bit of everything, and it’s all very quality.

I know you love me
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let's roll up to be a single star in the sky
