Hell Awaits: The Best And Worst Of Slayer

Slayer is a band synonymous with graphic lyrics ranging from death and dismemberment to rrwar and the horrors of hell. Their full-throttle velocity, wildly chaotic guitar solos, and rrpowerful musical chops paint an effectively chilling sonic background for their obsessive rrchronicling of the dark side; this correspondence has helped Slayer's music hold up arguably rrbetter than the remaining Big Three '80s thrash routfits(Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax). R.I.P., rJeff Hanneman!!
1Slayer
Reign in Blood

One of the thrash metal genre's biggest highlights, this 30-minute assault on the senses captivates in every way: songs are
lightning fast, lacking in repetition or cliche. Brutal composition, coupled with iconic riffs make this one a legendary album that's
more than stood the test of time.
2Slayer
Seasons in the Abyss

Slayer sticks to their guns, delivering another brutal thrashtacular in the process.
3Slayer
South of Heaven

The band's hot follow-up to "Reign in Blood" had a lot of shoes to fill back in '88. And while there are some missteps evident,
none can deny Slayer's singular gift for imaginative, chaotic thrash metal.
4Slayer
Hell Awaits

One of the earliest Slayer recordings in existence, and also overlooked. This album had more NWOBHM influences than later
albums, but that's how Slayer got their start. Only difference is they took a more violent musical direction later on. and there's
definitely shades of that here. This is a unique album that would foreshadow the band's contributions.
5Slayer
Show No Mercy

The very beginning of an iconic run. And an album that (mostly) lives to its title.
6Slayer
Christ Illusion

After a string of average releases, the band takes a look in the mirror and finally brings back some of the magic that made their
80's works legendary.
7Slayer
Divine Intervention

The beginning of a slump for Slayer, this album doesn't offer anything different for seasoned fans, but it does work in places.
8Slayer
God Hates Us All

Following the disasters of "Undisputed Attitude" and "Diabolus in Musica", Slayer slowly gets back on track with this ugly beast
of an album. They blend old-school thrash with a bit of nu-metal flavor, with average results.
9Slayer
World Painted Blood

Middle-age malaise rears its ugly head again, as the band tries a little too hard to add more melody. At least it's not "Diabolus in
Musica", though.
10Slayer
Diabolus in Musica

Quite possibly the low-point in the Slayer catalog. Nu-metal influence can be heard throughout, as hard rhythms are loosened
up and vocals are almost rapped.
11Slayer
Undisputed Attitude

How about, undisputedly crap?
