| I Saw Lorde Live
In Auckland last night, first show since her Grammy wins. Of course rI was rfeeling a lot of kiwi pride anyway, but gat damn it was a great rconcert. The rsound was amazing, she herself sounded vigorous and passionate r(not rbreathless like a couple of her tv appearances might've sounded), rjust rgenerally superb energy and delivery. Nerves and jet lag didn't stop rher from rnailing every song, most of which sounded very close to the album rversion rbut more nuanced. Genuinely one of the best shows I've ever been rto, wow. | 1 | Lorde Bravado
Perfect opener | 2 | Glory and Gore
This one sounded the least like the album version, but still an awesome visceral track | 3 | Biting Down
Soo hypnotic, the heavy toms in the middle were bliss | 4 | Tennis Court
Not one of my favourite Lorde songs but was a belter live, the crowd really started to
lose it at this point | 5 | Easy
A cover of Son Lux's track "Easy", a faithful cover but she managed to still make it very
much her own. Topped the original for me | 6 | Buzzcut Season
Obviously one of the chiller songs she played but beautifully atmospheric | 7 | Swinging Party
A cover of The Replacements, and b-side to the Tennis Court single. A nice track but
people started to get a bit restless here, it being the second downtempo cover in three
songs and all | 8 | 400 Lux
Memory of this one is pretty vague but I remember the synth sounding wicked and the
bass being outrageous | 9 | White Teeth Teens
Strong contender for my favourite Lorde song so this one was amazing to see | 10 | Royals
We've all heard it a million times but still a total jam, crowd of course went bananas... | 11 | Team
... and even more bananas still for this one, which was interesting. It must be getting
pretty massive as a single in its own right. The chorus absolutely soared | 12 | Retrograde
Yep, a James Blake cover, in honour of him pulling out of Laneway festival. She didn't
attempt to pull off the "hmm-hmm-hmm-hmmm" hook so did something different and
quirky. I preferred hers to the original, but that wasn't hard because I find James Blake
pretty lame lawl | 13 | Ribs
The pulse in this one was more pronounced, making it feel dancier than the album
version but no less feels-inducing. It was the first Lorde song to really strike a chord with
me emotionally so a real treat to see it live | 14 | A World Alone
Having played all my favourites off of Pure Heroine, I was hoping her finale to be either a nostalgic
rendition of "The Love Club" (tying it back to where it all began etcetera), or her latest single "No Better"
which is a hella jam. Either would've been great, but instead we were greeted with the mournful opening
guitar notes of "A World Alone." Initially I was kinda disappointed, having never really clicked with the
song before, but I finally see why everybody loves it. Every word she sung was so sincere, and the "I
know we're not everlasting / we're a train wreck waiting to happen" line even brought a little dampness
to my eyes. I'm actually stoked she played this song now, as it allowed me to finally 'get' it | |

01.29.14 | Oh yeah, the rest of Laneway was dope too. Danny Brown + Run The Jewels + Jamie XX + Cat Power + Haim were sweet, Earl was the only real disappointment | Phlegm
01.29.14 | damn dude I really wanted to make it up to Laneway this year, it had such a great lineup
i hear they might be doing a second festival day somewhere else in New Zealand next year thought so that will be super convenient & niche : ) | Polyethylene
01.29.14 | I thought the lineup was a little indie pop and hip-hoppish, would be cool to get some more electronic and rock acts | mryrtmrnfoxxxy

01.31.14 | As I said I liked it more than Blake's but that really wouldn't have been hard, he's doofus |
