2017: Atari's Favorite Songs

It's early but I can always add some favorite songs later!
1Nadia Reid
Preservation

"Richard" One of the very best tracks of 2017 from a sadly overlooked album. There's a rich, gospel-like sound to her voice that works wonders on the more colorful tracks. It's a shame this only has around 6 votes.
2Free Throw
Bear Your Mind

"Randy, I am the Liquor" Song is a blast. I like some of the softer cuts too but this track is the most memorable. one of my favorite emo albums of the year that isn't Sorority Noise
3Phoebe Bridgers
Stranger in the Alps

"Smoke Signals/Scott Street" The first tie on the list but there are so many great tracks on here it's hard to narrow it down to just one. Potential AOTY material
4Falls of Rauros
Vigilance Perennial

"White Granite" The opening track to this stunning black metal record is still one of the best
5Sorority Noise
You're Not As ____ As You Think

"A Better Sun" I see why some people think this is contrived with the Julien Baker reference and other references, but I love it this track (and album). To me, the references just point out music's ability to connect with us at a personal level
6Pallbearer
Heartless

"I Saw the End" Killer opening track with a memorable riff. Also the album art still reminds me of Breath of the Wild and I have fond memories of listening to this a lot while playing the game in the spring.
7The Front Bottoms
Going Grey

"Raining/Peace Sign" The second tie on the list. I've been digging Raining for several weeks now so I can't tell with the excitement of the new track which one I like better
8Big Thief
Capacity

"Mythological Beauty" Haven't listened to this in a while but this single is still one of the most memorable of the year for me. great lyrics
9Fleet Foxes
Crack-Up

"Fool's Errand" Slick song with a nice little piano outro.
10Florist (NY)
If Blue Could Be Happiness

"If Blues Could Be Happiness" The title track is one of the best here. Pretty underrated album so far, reminds me a little bit of Grouper at times
11Citizen
As You Please

"Flowerchild" One hell of a closer. Album's about the same as good as Youth imo
12Sampha
Process

"(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano" One of the most simple, but gorgeous pieces of music released all year
13The Mountain Goats
Goths

"Paid in Cocaine" Given their satirical nature, nothing is ever what you expect with The Mountain Goats. A song called "Paid in Cocaine" could be dark and demented, but that would be too easy. Instead, the track is a warm mixture of pianos and horns that are among the most beautifully orchestrated on the entire album.
14Have Mercy
Make The Best Of It

"Coexist" Even though I wasn't that impressed with the album as a whole, this track is a different story. One of my most played songs back in the spring
15The Smith Street Band
More Scared of You Than You Are of Me

"Birthdays" I still go back and forth on my feelings for this album, but single Birthdays was a definite highlight. Something about it reminds me of No One Gets Lost Anymore, which is a very good thing.
16Julie Byrne
Not Even Happiness

"Follow My Voice" Still a little surprised by the average rating for this. It is slower paced, but when you're in the mood for this sort of thing this really hits the spot. Opener is the standout
17Neun Welten
The Sea I'm Diving In

"Lorn" Killer dark ambient track, and one of the most brooding tracks here. Album seems kinda overlooked despite my best efforts. Fans of dark ambient/folk should give it a shot!
18Susanne Sundfor
Music For People In Trouble

"No One Believes in Love Anymore". Favorite track on here is definitely subject to change but wow this is something else. Love the flutes in this song. Cheers to Dewinged for the rec!
19Circuit Des Yeux
Reaching For Indigo

"Black Fly". I just love the atmosphere in this song, especially in the second half. Veery intriguing vocals
