My Two Heavy Metal Songs With Strongest First Impression

about my first impression to heavy metal
Suicide Note pt. I

First time i listened to this song about late 1999's in a small town called
Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. I borrowed
a compilation album cassette tape from my fella where the song included in
it. I forget the album title but i remember
there're a dozen artist such Extreme, Yngwie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. At the
time i thinked; "Damn! what a great acoustic, i
must have this Pantera full album. They must be a legend. First effort
finding their full album wasn't an easy job, i don't
know their studio album title. So i have always keep saying to music shop
keeper; "Pantera full album, please, where the song
'Suicide Note pt. I' in it". Guess what i got, they offered me another half
dozen various artist compilation where Pantera
song in it, no a full album. Shop keeper said; "Sorry, Kid! The album is not in
our catalog". Two days later i realized that
the album title was printed In cassette back-cover note. I said to myself;
"Fuck, stupid!". Although i know 'The Great
Southern Trendkill' was the title, i realized it doesn't much help, shop
keeper always keep saying; "Sorry, Kid!", and i stop
searching. In mid-2001, finally i found their full album called 'Cowboys from
Hell', i found it not in music store but in a
small shop where they sell second-hand books or novels, old cassettes,
magazine, comics, etc. When i playback my new-old"
'Cowboys from Hell' cassette on my tape player, i said to my self that i
wasted my time for this band. The music too harsh
for me. First time when i listened to their music (Suicide Note pt. I song), i
assumed their music was typcically slowrock
with beautiful guitar play, catchy, and easy listening. I realized I was stupid
thinking like that, and i regret for buying
the album despite for a second-hand one. Six years later when i grew up, i
began liking music such Iron Maiden (i confess
Iron Maiden was a bridge to me for loving heavy metal music), once again i
realized that 'Cowboys from Hell' is my precious
stuff. I am lucky enough that my mom keep my old cassettes in a cardboard
in our pantry. Last year, when i put the cassette
to my old tape player, it still works and sound still good enough, i can feel
Dimebag's ferocious guitar play. This day, may
be that kind of analog stuff useless, old-fashioned. I play my Pantera
'Cowboy From Hell' through my smartphone or sometimes
with CD player. But i still keep my old second-hand cassette. Because it is
too worthly to be thrown away...
Tornado Of Souls

In late 1999's i knew Megadeth in a glance, i mean i know it a name of a
band. At the time I have no idea what kind of music Megadeth was. I know
Megadeth is a metal band when my fella was broken-hearted. The girl
whom he admired refusing his love statement. I know that was not the first
time the girl refused him, it was the third time, can you imagine that? What
a poor my friend Jack! One of his big mistake was he felt in love with one of
the most beautiful and cutest girl in our school, so i am not surprised if she
refused him, coz my another fella, one of the most charming boy within girls
opinion, was refused too. Okey, forget about girl, this is story how i get my
first impression of Megadeth song. Just like other country, radio air play at
the time in my town still get loyal fans. With his broken-hearted feeling my
fella requested a song to radio DJ. I heard my fella said; "OK Sir, just play
any Megadeth Song!", then my fella said; "Yeah up to you. Whatever.
Megadeth! Please...". And soon, after a few slow rock songs in air play, DJ
read our request somekind like this;"OK we have our friend request this
Megadeth song and dedicated it to his girl. He said; my girl, just keep
remembering that i'll keep going on for your love, babe!OK everybody
please check this one out, Megadeth--Tornado Of Souls!". Yeah, i think the
DJ said something like that, it's a little difficult to me translating my first
language into english, i hope you understand. This is how i know that
Megadeth is metal. Exactly i didn't know why my friend asked Megadeth
song to radio airplay DJ, coz i know he has no any Megadeth album, in his
room i only found the kind like Alan Jackson, The Beatles, Queen, a few
slow rock compilation album, and many Indonesian pop and jazz star. At
the time, when the DJ played for us 'Tornado Of Souls', my impression is : i
didn't like this shit so much. Years later until now on i still don't know why
my friend asked the DJ any Megadeth song, and i never asked him why.
Right now for me that's not really matter, the important thing is I LOVE
METAL and offcourse i love MEGADETH. Thanks a lots to my brokenhearted
fella for introducing me to one of best metal band in the world, despite my
first impression to this band wasn't good enough.
