10.14.13 | Whoa sweet.
I wish Anderson would reunite with Martin Barre though. Playing the original TAAB as a solo show just doesn't seem right (neither does releasing the sequel as a solo album). |
Jethro42
10.14.13 | Maybe Martin Barre is retired... |
manosg
10.14.13 | Don't think so. He released a new album this year. |
Jethro42
10.14.13 | Maybe they are not in good terms then. |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | Prob not in good terms, but hey beggars can't be choosers right? His band on his solo album is good, so I'll take it! |
Nagrarok
10.14.13 | Anderson releasing TAAB2 under his own name, especially when there hasn't been a Tull album in 10 years, certainly isn't a good sign. Have fun though! |
manosg
10.14.13 | Yeah it's a shame especially when you think that the only album Tull that Barre didn't participate was their debut.
Anyway, concert will be sweet. Have a good time man! |
Jethro42
10.14.13 | Jethro tull continued to tour without releasing any record. I've seen them in 2003 and in 2007 I think. Martin Barre was there as were Doan Perry on drums among others... |
Nagrarok
10.14.13 | 'Yeah it's a shame especially when you think that the only album Tull that Barre didn't participate was their debut.'
Barre is essentially the element that separates Jethro Tull from being Anderson's solo group. |

10.14.13 | Sounds epic, really wish I hadn't missed him when he came to Cleveland. |

Oh yes, the bunch of musicians he's put together as his solo group are certainly impressive and more than capable of playing the material even if they aren't up to the standards of the original Thick as a Brick-era line-up (but lets face it very few bands are up to that standard).
"Barre is essentially the element that separates Jethro Tull from being Anderson's solo group."
Yep. This has pretty much been the case since since the early 80's. |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | Barre adds that flair and has great warm tones, plus he can play the flute when Ians on the guitar so thats coo. But I'm really looking forward to the concert. I couldn't go for anathema which was a bummer but fingers crossed for this |

10.14.13 | sounds awesome |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | Is the second TAAB album any good? |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | Yeah its pretty good, don't compare to the first obv, but it has quite a few really enjoyable moments. |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | Sweet might check it |
JamieTwort
10.14.13 | Yeah TAAB 2 is great, even if it isn't close to the level of the original. |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | How are his vocals sounding nowadays? |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | Still got loads of character and passion. Basically check the record out |
JamieTwort
10.14.13 | His vocals are nowhere near as good as they used to be. He had throat surgery in the mid 80's which effected his vocal range quite a lot and his voice hasn't been the same since unfortunately. The first album recorded following the surgery was Crest of a Knave and from that album onwards he sounds noticeably weaker than he used to. His voice hasn't deteriorated much with age since then though. His voice is still decent. |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | hehe don't worry I'm planning on it just trying to get an idea of what it's like |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | @Jamie ah that would explain why his vocals got so much deeper then, yeah I wasn't a massive fan of that style but I guess he had no control over it |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | I enjoy his deep vocals as well, he focuses on character which is what I love. |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | to be fair I've only listened to Heavy Horses once and that's it as far as late-era Tull is concerned so this is an opinion in progress |
JamieTwort
10.14.13 | His vocals are at their best on Heavy Horses wtf Rowan. |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | "Ian got the songwriting credits because the legal bottom line is that he writes the lyrics and has the basic ideas for a song, and then I, or someone else in the band, contribute parts to it. On Thick as a Brick, for example, so much of that music came from [keyboardist] John Evan." Martin Barre |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | Rowan don't say anything even slightly negative about Heavy Horses or Songs from the wood around Jamie |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | Sorry Jamie but I've had a hard time getting into Tull outside of TAAB and Minstrel |
JamieTwort
10.14.13 | Anderson's vocals didn't start going downhill to well after their classic era (so long after Heavy Horses). |
OmairSh
10.14.13 | Heavy Horses is mid era Tull not late era |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | well gonna give up on life now cya |
JamieTwort
10.14.13 | It's all good Rowan, don't go doing anything silly. |
Rowan5215
10.14.13 | rip me |

10.15.13 | Have fun dude. Ian Anderson rules. |
