Top 10 Albums Of 2012
Well folks it's that time of year again, list time!I'm only doing 10 because it
seems to me like a more reasonable number of albums than say like 15-50
album lists that are out there.Very pleasantly surprised just how awesome
2012 was for music and am expecting great things for 2013 as well. |
1 | | Gaza No Absolutes In Human Suffering
Probably not everyone's number 1 but to me this is the album that I gravitated
towards the most this year.Very frantic, heavy and at times desolate sounding
instrumentation just enough to make you feel like your being hit in the face with a
brick. |
2 | | Old Man Gloom No
With a band that has taken eight years to come out with a new album you'd think
that they would have lost focus and direction considering all the projects this band
is associated with but with OMG's No that's not the case at all.Very heavy riffs and
spacious sounds provide a good mix to make a very unique and interesting listen
that almost puts you in an another mind space. |
3 | | Krallice Years Past Matter
Yes so let the whinny comments commence.Yeah I thought this album was great
sure it's not a huge musical step forward for Krallice but this black
metal/progressive band take the sound they've been messing with the last few
albums and progress forward with it adding new variation to the songs on here with
very long spiraling compositions and awesome riffs. |
4 | | Swans The Seer
A very bizarre but awesome release from the kings of weird Swans.Very
long, obscure, drony and almost pretty sounding songs. What more can I say about
this album that hasn't already been said except that it's an awesome record and if
you've not heard this yet get on it! |
5 | | Converge All We Love We Leave Behind
A definite step forward for Converge. This time around Converge break up the
intensity (but not to much so) by adding a few new elements to their sound by
melding post-hardcore sounds with their brand of metalcore-ish motif songs like
"Aimless Arrow", "Glacial Pace" and "Coral Blue" are great example of this making
AWLWLB one of the more diverse albums in Converge's discography. |
6 | | Neurosis Honor Found In Decay
ah yes another controversial album that has made it on my list this year. While yeah
this for sure is my least favorite Neurosis record it is by no means a terrible album if
anything it's a pretty solid release by this band.Desolate and meandering this album
takes you on a very slow and spacious journey. |
7 | | Burning Love Rotten Thing To Say
While the demise of the great Cursed was a very sad and terrible situation it has by
no means slowed Chris Colohan down with this current project.Fun,kick ass
awesome guitar riffs that are pissed off but in a fun sort of way with a punk aesthetic to it. |
8 | | Evoken Atra Mors
To be completely honest I have never been a funeral doom fan by any means what
so ever but I think this band has changed that for sure.Dark and depressive at
times it slowly builds up until it comes crashing down within the music.great stuff
but warning don't listen to this on a good day it might screw up the rest of it. |
9 | | Code Orange Kids Love Is Love//Return to Dust
Yeah, yeah, yeah I know what you all are thinking; "This was so-so but why is this
on your list?"Well it just boils down to this I like it and can't help it.Yeah it's not the
most original style of music and yeah there are a few things this band needs to
work on in the future but this band is so young and new that I see this as just a
stepping stone for them to create something stellar.A good mix of sludgy metal and
metalcore-ish elements. |
10 | | Narrows Painted
a lot of hardcore type stuff this year but out of all of them this one stuck out as
being the more unique if the lot. a lot of weird and bad ass songs on that last only
a little over 27 minutes but thats just enough time to beat your head in (i.e. the
song "It's the Water").Good stuff. |
