04.05.12 | 1 should be lower, but I like the high placement of 2 | Ovrot
04.05.12 | 9 is underrated | RunOfTheMill
04.09.12 | 10 should be A LOT higher imo, but props for 2.
Sorry for late post :s | Venpts16
04.09.12 | Thank you all for the criticism on the list! I always thought Majesty was one of the most under-looked Power Metal releases, and I'm glad you agree on that. | RunOfTheMill
04.09.12 | Well, I personally think Majestic to be lacking in originality, but it still has really good songs, especially Revelation and My Temple, but what do you have against Sigh No More?? | Hyperion1001
04.09.12 | 5/5 | Venpts16
04.09.12 | Sigh No More just seemed really boring throughout the entire duration. Very little really stood out when I listened to it, and the few that stood out (One With the World, Rich and Famous, some of Changes) didn't compare to anything else of the band's career. Though a lot of people seem to like the heavier sound, it just didn't work in my opinion; though I'm sure some fans would place that over albums like To the Metal or Power Plant. | RunOfTheMill
04.10.12 | Really? I thought it was pretty creative, and most of the songs are great, and it omits most of the faults from Heading to Tomorrow. Granted there are some very meh songs (Start Running, Countdown...), but it's a nice collection of shorter songs, if you're into that kind of thing. A long track would have done it well, though... | Venpts16
04.12.12 | I wouldn't say shorter songs were necessarily the issue. As much as I love Rebellion in Dreamland, Insurrection, and Armageddon, I would also add songs like Fight and Dethrone Tyranny as some of my favorites.
Of course, it all comes down to personal preference. I just didn't like the mix of melody and aggression in releases like this or The Time of the Oath by Helloween. The peculiar thing about this is that albums like No World Order, 7 Sinners and much of the Matt Barlow-era of Iced Earth are fantastic offerings of Power Metal in my eyes; I guess some of these albums just don't click with me personally. | RunOfTheMill
04.12.12 | Melody and aggression... yeah I can see where that's coming from, but if you listen to, say, As Time Goes By or The Spirit, it's really reminiscent of the Keepers albums. Maybe it's Scheepers's vocals? I dunno, do you like him? | Venpts16
04.12.12 | Scheepers is a pretty awesome singer, though I will say that he got better as the Gamma Ray (and Primal Fear) albums came out. That may be a reason why I was disappointed by the first two Gamma Ray releases... | RunOfTheMill
04.12.12 | To each our own, I guess. I always thought he sounded a lot like Michael Kiske, and since I find Kai's
voice annoying at times, I've always appreciated the first few Gamma Ray albums a bit more, even if
they were pretty inconsistent.
I haven't listened to any Primal Fear, actually, so maybe I'll put that on my list of music to check
out. Considering I like the first two Gamma Ray albums, which one would you recommend? | Tyrael
04.12.12 | 'one of the very first bands that i found gay
ahh memories'
so riff, this band was the soundtrack to your coming out party then? | Venpts16
04.12.12 | I didn't listen to all of Primal Fear's discography, but I have to say that "Jaws of Death" is probably the closest to the older Gamma Ray albums (though with a large Judas Priest influence). "Final Embrace" is probably my favorite song by them, and is an incredible introduction to the band and album.
As for other releases, "Black Sun" and "Seven Seals" may sound closer to Painkiller, but are very enjoyable Power Metal albums you can't go without. "Armageddon" (unrelated to the Gamma Ray song) and "Demons and Angels" are two essential songs from those albums with strong riffing and great choruses. | Voivod
04.12.12 | 3 should be 1. | Whiskers
04.13.12 | Gamma Fooking Ray!! | RunOfTheMill
04.13.12 | Well, I fucking love Judas Priest, so I'm sure I'll find stuff to enjoy.
"3 should be 1."
Nah, 1 is their best :P | lak89
04.13.12 | Very happy with where 2 is placed, it's a great album. | ksoflas
09.03.14 | 3 is 1. | TheClansman95
05.19.16 | I disagree with this list |
