Horror Sequels Ranked

In light of the new Halloween film coming out, it's time to rank some of the best horror sequels.
14Slipknot
Slipknot

Bride of Chucky/Freddy Vs Jason - These aren't exactly amazing films or anything, but they are SO much fucking fun. I probably watch these two more than most of the movies on this list just because they're so over the top and insane.
13Deicide
Legion

Hellraiser 2 - I'm not going to lie, outside of Hellraiser 1 and part of this movie, I fucking hate this franchise. Clive Barker is a horror legend and Pinhead looks and sounds really cool, but outside of that it's really not for me. Most of my praise from this movie just comes from all of the insane visuals and it not outright sucking like the sequels to follow. Added points for fantastic gore.
12Cradle of Filth
Dusk and Her Embrace

The Devi's Rejects - Sort of like a modern Natural Born Killers and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The only Rob Zombie movie I don't really have any complaints about. Captain Spaulding is one of my favorite modern horror characters and he REALLY shines here.
11Cryptopsy
None So Vile

28 Weeks Later - Not as good as Danny Boyle's original, but that's a pretty damn high bar. This one cranks up the action and the body count while still keeping SOME of the artistic style of the original. It's a much better drinking game than "Days"
10Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - the return of Tom Savini! This is actually my favorite one from this entire series (with 6 being a close second). It's not exactly innovative but it has a ton of great kills, great gore effects, fun enough characters to be killed off and a hell of an ending. Far superior to the original imo
9Dio
Holy Diver

Halloween 2 - Nothing was going to top Carpenter's classic, so keeping that in mind, this is a pretty great follow up. I know they felt a little pressured to up the gore since Friday the 13th was gaining popularity at this point, and that distracts a little bit just because of how drastic that change is from part 1, but it is still a damn fun time.
8Iron Maiden
The Number of the Beast

Child's Play 2 - The mystery story in the first one was very creative, but this movie is far more fun imo. This movie has Chucky on an 11 throughout the entire movie. Great one liners, great kills (especially once they get to the toy shop), this movie really ups the ante and is everything a Child's Play sequel should be.
7Darkthrone
A Blaze in the Northern Sky

Psycho 2 - I actually just saw this movie for the first time a few weeks ago because no one talks about it. But they should. It's not exactly Hitchcock, but it is FAR better than it has any right to be and a wonderful continuation of Norman's story. I encourage all horror fans to give this one a chance.
6Behemoth
The Satanist

Scream 2 - The opening scene is a bit TOO ridiculous for me, but other than that this is almost as good as the first one. Kuddos to this movie for keeping up the quality to this degree.
5King Diamond
Conspiracy

Wes Craven's New Nightmare - Being meta before it was cool. This movie should have made WAY more money than it did. Everyone (except for that damn kid) is on their A game. Freddy is finally scary again! REJOICE
4Cannibal Corpse
Eaten Back to Life

Dawn of the Dead - My favorite in the series. Moving the setting from a small cabin in the woods to a massive mall was a genius move. Outside of the blue face paint, this is one of the most engrossing horror films I have ever seen.
3King Diamond
Abigail

A Nightmare on Elm Street part 3 - DREAAMMMM WARRIORRS! I probably watch this one more than the original. This is Freddy at the best balance of scary and funny. It also has some of the best sequences in the entire franchise ("Welcome to Prime Time, bitch!"). If it weren't for New Nightmare, I would have wished that they stopped after this one.
2Meshuggah
Catch Thirtythree

Aliens - I don't even know what to say about this film that hasn't been said already. Not AS perfect as the original imo but still an A+ film and a classic in the genre. This expands on the first one in all of the best ways.
1Death
Scream Bloody Gore

Evil Dead 2 - Obviously this is my choice. This movie is flawless for the genre. It's got tons of creative ideas, cinematography, music, characters, deadites, one-liners and Ash becoming the Ash we know and love. Words cannot explain my love for this film.
