Fox Recs

just a list of albums i love that you should try
1The KLF
Chill Out

A week-long road trip through America condensed into a 40 minute album. Hazy,
ambiguous, and impersonal, in the way that passing by so many things so quickly
becomes a numb blur. And then suddenly it?s over with no explanation or reasoning, just
the memories of the journey for what it was.
2Time To Burn
Is.Land

In terms of darkness, few can compare with the absolutely devastating Is.land. This
album is like drowning in an ocean of sound. Plus it is FREE guys, so please check it out
and let it obliterate any optimism you had left for this world.

3Brand Nubian
One For All

This is perhaps my favorite hip hop album. Perfect flow, perfect energy, perfect beats,
and impeccable taste ? Brand Nubian do everything right here. For me, this is the
embodiment of 90?s hip hop. Pure 90?s bliss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?

4Brutal Truth
Need To Control

Some of the most bizarre, artistic grind ever created. I can?t believe this isn't more
popular on sput, as this is pretty much the best the genre has to offer. This is to
grindcore as ?Obscura? (album not band) is to death metal. And it?s got god damn
didgeridoos man. God damn didgeridoos.
5Hallucinogen
The Lone Deranger

My favorite trance album. Hallucinogen?s first album gets much more attention, which is
something I?ve never understood because this is better in pretty much every way. Lone
deranger is a pretty fucked up trip. 'Gamma Goblins' is from another dimension entirely.
6Jia Peng Fang
Sho

If you have any interest in traditional Chinese music with a twist then I couldn't
recommend this more. Jia Peng Fang is one of the most famous players of the Erhu,
a two-stringed traditional Chinese instrument often described as having the qualities
of a human voice. Jia can shred the fuck out of those two strings, it?s pretty
unbelievable. This is one of my favorite songs ever ? perfect, sublime music:

7Vashti Bunyan
Just Another Diamond Day

One of the most magical and special albums I've ever experienced. This album is
completely intoxicating. Just Another Diamond Day delivers a level of wonder and
beauty other artists can only dream of.
8Antonio Carlos Jobim
Stone Flower

Classy, lush, sophisticated late-night bossa nova for the gentlemen in you. A hushed
and understated album that doesn't need to brag about how it?s pretty much the
coolest shit there is.
9Issa Bagayogo
Tassoumakan

Issa is a famous player of the kamele n'goni, a traditional African instrument often
compared to a lute. 100% Authentic Gypsy Swag Stamp of Approval (potsy 5'd it)
10Pile
Magic Isn't Real

Dense, rumbling, bluesy post hardcore. I went into this with no expectations since I just
happened upon it whilst browsing bandcamp, and I was extremely impressed. Pile
fantastically blend indie-styled melodies with post hardcore energy and good ?ole rock n
roll riffage. ?Pets? is one of the most powerful songs I?ve heard in quite some time. And
yes, this masterpiece is FREE: http://pile.bandcamp.com/album/magic-isnt-real
11Serious Beak
Huxwhukw

The best way I can describe this is to quote them directly ?"Huxwhukw" is an eccentric
amalgamation of mind-melting, toe-tapping, psychedelic, progressive and poly-rhythmic
discordant music ? Stream here (shit ain?t free but you got money right):

12The Bulletproof Tiger
You Wanna Kiss About it?

Yeah, the album cover is gross and the titles for pretty much everything are terrible but
that?s not what?s important here. What is important is this is some of the most proficient
math rock I?ve ever heard. Beautiful meandering melodies effortlessly flow like water.
Stream here (shit ain?t free sorry bros) http://thebulletprooftiger.bandcamp.com/
13Crotchduster
Big Fat Box of Shit

If you know what this is, then you know that it is the best thing you?ve ever heard. If you
don?t know what it is, then prepare for the best thing that ever happened to you. Imagine
every band and genre of music to ever exist (and some that didn?t before they played
them) mangled together into one behemoth entity with the sole purpose of acquiring
more mammal sauce and you?re getting a slight insight on who crotchduster is: the best
band there ever was or ever will be. Every band that is not crotchduster only wishes that
they could be crotchduster. Get yourself a spoon and a whole tub of mammal sauce and
feel the power. All hail the Hellspawn Warhammers of the Nordic Wind!!!!!!!!!
14Trachimbrod
A Collection of Hidden Sketches

Heard this for the first time just like a week ago (thanks spirit). This is post-rock/post-
whatever screamo done completely perfectly. Really fantastic melody, memorable song
structures, and generally just one of the more genuinely emotive things I?ve heard in
some time. It?s a bit difficult to describe this that well, so just hear it, it?s gorgeous.
Easily in the top 5 albums from last year.
15Tiger Trap
Tiger Trap

All female feel-good indiepop sweetness sure to make your heart melt.
16Carbon Based Lifeforms
World of Sleepers

The best ambient album I've ever heard, perfect for listening to while walking around
outside. One of my favorite things ever.
17Drop Nineteens
Delaware

The 90's were the best. Winona is my fav shoegaze song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4oCboj39jo
18Dragged Into Sunlight
Hatred For Mankind

This is more well known than a lot of stuff on this list, but it still only has 60 something
ratings. Hatred For Mankind is one of the best death metal albums released in the past
decade.
19Cranes
Wings of Joy

Eerie and slightly bizarre shoegaze/dream pop with incredible vocals and dark
atmosphere.
20Solefald
Neonism

Very avant-garde black metal that i insta-5'd. This is an unusual and exciting listen.
