1 | | Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Pamyu Pamyu Revolution
Do you remember how it felt to be a young child? When time was meaningless and even the most frivolous of physical objects could inspire an immeasurable sense of wonder and mystery? As we age we often inevitably become jaded to the world around us, and are forced to conform to entirely pointless standards and rules set by ourselves and others. For many of us that are both still young, yet old enough to be an adult fending for ourselves in the world, we are faced with a bit of an identity crisis. What or who am I really? Am I just a product of everything around me? If I strip away the fictitious layers of identity and self I?ve accumulated through my experiences, what am I truly left with? Music is often both my escape and my solution to these questions, especially when creating my own music. Enter Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. As if from another dimension entirely, Kyary burst onto the scene and in an extremely short amount of time, has already become the personification of everything Harajuku and kawaii. But it?s much more than that. This is not just simply happy, frivolous feel good music, at least for me. Never before has music inspired such a distinct feeling within in me. Largely due to mastermind Yasutaka Nakata?s indescribable production skills, Pamyu Pamyu Revolution exists seemingly outside the boundaries of normal music. It can almost be described as ?transcendent?, for the lack of a better word. In this realm, the world is still precious and magical. This is achieved not though most conventional methods, like powerful lyrics or brooding song structures, but through a culmination of everything present on the record that I still can?t entirely grasp. If anything, Pamyu Pamyu Revolution has offered me a new perspective on music and how I relate to it, and has inspired me to believe that maybe there is still some sort of magic and wonder left in this world. |
