Johnny's Decade: Honourable Mentions

The doors are shut on my final 100, but some (most) of these were albums I was sad not to include. List is loosely ranked, the real deal should be up sometime soon
1Do Make Say Think
Stubborn Persistent Illusions

One of the better post-rock albums of the last few years
2Daughters
Daughters

[changed my mind and cancelled this from the top 100, this was the draft write-up]

Daughters’ combination of rock ’n’ roll swagger with noise rock pyrotechnics and creative guitar stylings is one of the more fun sounds to have come out of the ’10s. While the group’s decision to refine the wildfire energy of their early work into darker, more expansive territory on the ever-acclaimed You Won’t Get What You Want won many over, they sound a good deal more convincing when operating on full throttle. Their self-titled album is a fat-free set of hard rocking freakfests, groovy and jarring when appropriate and crafted with a careful sensitivity to each track’s pacing, particularly impressive given how its waveform is invariably LOUD. Unrelentingly maximalist albums have to work hard to carry their momentum, but Daugthers whipped up a storm worthy to the task on this one.
3Julia Holter
Loud City Song

I'm a fan of this, but the tone is so damn dry in parts I end up wanting to love it more than I do
4Dir En Grey
Dum Spiro Spero

Heavy Diru is good Diru but damn, some of this is dense
5Bjork
Vulnicura

Half of this is grade-A Bjork, half is an absolute slog. Notget and Black Lake>>>
6Two People
First Body

Lots more dream pop to come on the real thing, but a handful of slightly stronger releases made this hard to include
7Polyenso
One Big Particular Loop

Best Radiohead of the decade
8Radiohead
A Moon Shaped Pool

Second best Radiohead of the decade
9Otoboke Beaver
Itekoma Hits

Still fun as hell, definitely top ten 2019 materual
10Phoebe Bridgers
Stranger In The Alps

Definitely among the better indie folk albums I've heard, but the final three tracks fall off hard
11Women
Public Strain

Mainly included because this keeps growing on me very slightly and I feel that it'll probably be a 5 in about seven years' time
12100 Gecs
1000 gecs

ADHD AOTD mayb?
13SikTh
Opacities

Maybe best Sikth
14Thrice
To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere

Cute comeback record with a sad quantity of stale cheese onboard :[ Great stuff for the most part though
15Godspeed You! Black Emperor
'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!

We Drift Like Worried Fire is top tier Godspeed but I barely ever return to this
