| Recent digs (recs please!)
Been listening to a lot of Japanese music lately (big thanks to anyone who commented on my list a couple of months ago - been combing through your recs and still at it), anything in line with this is welcome (as is a change of tone!) | 1 | | Shiina Ringo Shouso Strip
Absolutely blown away by this, probably going to 5 it sometime soon. Kalk Samen is the bomb too | 2 | | Ling Tosite Sigure Just a Moment
Another stunning album, wish I'd heard this years ago. Been listening to Inspiration is DEAD and #5 a lot too, this band has absolutely obliterated The Fall of Troy within that niche in my listening patterns | 3 | | mewithoutYou [Untitled]
Grown off my a bit, but a characteristically fantastic album from these guys | 4 | | Midori Aratame Hajime Mashite Midori Desu
Another great band I should have checked earlier. Working on a review for Second and will probably carry on to do Shimizu and maybe this | 5 | | Number Girl Sappukei
Lotta great Fugazi and Pixies vibe here, somewhat oppressive sound but solid band | 6 | | Beach House 7
Never had much time for these guys before (always seemed quite faddish and vacuous), but this is darker and excellent. Drunk In LA is top 10 SOTY material | 7 | | Car Seat Headrest Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)
Famous Prophets (Stars) is my unquestioned song of the year, and this reversion is a dream from start to finish. I checked the original first and was quite sceptical of this to begin with, but it holds its ground and innovates enough to seem necessary | 8 | | Kate Bush The Sensual World
I'm a bit iffy about parts of this but this is still v much Kate Bush in her prime, not much more to add | 9 | | Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds Dig, Lazarus, Dig!
Some scuzzy parts I could do without, but a lot of smut and humour on this one plus two or three particularly choice cuts | 10 | | Swans Soundtracks for the Blind
Somewhat overwhelmed by this and wasn't as blown away as I'd hoped (aside from Helpless Child). There are several individual tracks I'll come back to, but a lot that doesn't beg to be heard again anytime soon | 11 | | After Dinner Paradise of Replica
Cheers AlexanderMR for the rec, still getting into this but definitely enjoying parts of it | 12 | | Vennart To Cure A Blizzard Upon A Plastic Sea
An improvement on his debut, lots of good sounds on this one | |
