Off The Wall
I originally planned to just list these to a single user but it took so long to trawl through everything I thought I may as well add the albums to the database and make a thing of it.
Anyway, here's a reasonably concise list of electronic albums which bar one or two exceptions should probably get a little more love than they do currently. I'll say when they're from this year as well, in case anyone's wanting to catch up on stuff before end of year lists. |
1 | | Ametsub Linear Cryptics
Beautiful glitch music - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWm2OY-7huM |
2 | | Baio Mira
[2013] dance dance dance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3R1t-iCrko |
3 | | BANKS Fall Over
[2013] BANKS triggers questions such as: is this good or great? Is it innovative or not? What genre is this? and would you tap that? Important things needing answers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g_S9Vzp9Hs |
4 | | Bisk Strange Or Funny Ha-Ha?
So non-music is apparently a thing and I like it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-kMeLEoXPY |
5 | | Booka Shade Eve
[2013] I seem to enjoy this more than most, but the general consensus seems to be that it's pretty swell in any case - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWJbT9djaYA |
6 | | Desolate Actaeon
[2013] A vinyl-only release (digital obviously being available via. alternate means) remarkable for (a) being the best thing Desolate's ever done and (b) having no internet presence at all - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_QzkcdXrnU |
7 | | Dpat Bloom
[2013] Highly enjoyable, but the mix of downtempo, trip-hop and nods to the soppier side of dubstep could be said to be a tad too inoffensive - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQL4GyzUWkc |
8 | | Evenings Yore
[2013] Subtly mind-blowing stuff - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmT4rHgj874 |
9 | | Forest Swords Engravings
[2013] Impulse bought the vinyl of this before I'd actually heard it, so I'm lucky the album's amazing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7qbpFUabN0 |
10 | | Ghostek Vacuum
Excellent album, but I'm really bringing it up because judging by the teaser/interlude thing the new Ghostek LP will be even better. Check it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxSNFqN3kFE |
11 | | Gui Boratto III
[2013 - kinda] Again, this is in reference to another release, Generate, but I'm not sure it's long enough to add to the database. Very good though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkWRKrP7EKk |
12 | | Hol Baumann [ Human ]
One of those albums you listen to so intently you only breathe out at the end of each track to mutter "fuuckin ell" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c9bz31sZSg |
13 | | iTAL tEK Control
[2013] Saw this guy recently and he absolutely killed it, the album's great too - http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2013/11/listen-ital-teks-control-mini-al |
14 | | JMSN ?Pllajė?
[2013] He couldn't make his EP more difficult to search for if he tried, but JMSM makes up for it with a very well crafted RnB album with brilliant instrumentation. Pretty sure the majority of Sputnik would like this one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1ijRUtpsMA |
15 | | Kettel & Secede When Can
I've been plugging this for a while but it's still my favourite album of last year - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SneLTXPiZFc |
16 | | KOAN Sound & Asa Sanctuary
[2013] Lush, emotional dubstep that still manages to pack more than a couple of punches. It made me kind of sad to see this wasn't in the database, especially considering how well the individual artists have been performing recently - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozg8-ESIx4E |
17 | | Ludovico Einaudi In a Time Lapse: The Remixes
[2013] This remix album has no right to be as brilliant as it is. Phaeleh and Starkey do an especially mind blowing job - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FUU4Mu8TsQ |
18 | | Lulu Rouge The Song is in the Drum
[2013] Eastern european electronic with strong folk influences? Yes please - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=109m0zeAb7o |
19 | | Machinedrum Vapor City
[2013] Still ripping it up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZIU4z95LkE |
20 | | Moderat II
[2013] I wouldn't have bothered putting this on here if Therapy wasn't one of the best tracks of the year (would still put Freak Go Home by Darkside as my favourite so far though) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUQkSsz5gZ4 |
21 | | Murcof Remembranza
Glitchy classical loveliness - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtt1-6LNy9g |
22 | | Old Joy It Slowly Disappears
[2013] Emotional downtempo which has received confusingly little attention: I really quite like it - https://soundcloud.com/oldjoy/le-chappe-e |
23 | | Plaid Double Figure
Electronic royalty with 14 votes... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyxpilbce60 |
24 | | Proem Socially Inept
Glitch glitch glitch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKzvOmbmm9w |
25 | | Robot Koch Death Star Droid
Contains the best cover of People are Strange ever - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gG5XeYva4A |
26 | | Saroos Return
[2013] Not for the faint of heart - electronic with plenty of glitch and jazz components - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKeiRnjaWxc |
27 | | Sea Oleena Sleeplessness
Still one of the most relaxing non-ambient albums ever - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWsiNY8B_wM |
28 | | Secede Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic
A quick look at my music library shows I've turned into a bit of a Secede fanboy. Listen to this and you won't be able to blame me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgHANBrZkMo |
29 | | SOHN Bloodflows
[2013] More RnB, this time from the guy who produced BANKS' newer EP. This is predictably awesome - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8mRS37h0IY |
30 | | Son Lux Lanterns
[2013] In my opinion, the best he's done by quite a way - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqSgSffvFGU |
31 | | Sorrow (UK) Warring
[2013] Sorrow seems to enjoy going pretty fucking heavy now, which suits fine since there's too many people doing the chilled out stuff anyway - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uod9mXk2Yh0 |
32 | | Ta-ku Songs to Break Up To
[2013] Speaking of the soft stuff... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrdNo1UJID4 |
33 | | Tipper Surrounded
My go to album if I'm walking alone at night - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KON3twbJXUI |
34 | | The Range Nonfiction
[2013] If every track on here was as good as Jamie or Hamiltonian we'd be looking at 4.5's across the board - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECUyqvGv604 |
35 | | Ulfur White Mountain
[2013 as far as we non-Japanese are concerned] Icelandic! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw35KMVIXgs |
36 | | Valentin Stip Angst
[2013] Not perfect, but still damn groovy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6UvH09kk7k |
37 | | Ben Frost Music For Sad Children
Apparently I went blind near the beginning of this list and forgot to copy this one across. Ben's released my favourite album of the year so far but it's way too intimidating to recommend it (called FAR, by the way, it's dark ambient to the extreme) so this old classic will have to do - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW2ZIeJCywM |
