2017 So Far

So far, so good.
1AFI
AFI (The Blood Album)

My favorite band releases their 10th studio album and although it definitely is not their best work, I think there is a lot of passionate instrumentation on here. I think the songs feel just way too short for what they are and most could have been built upon. Still a very enjoyable listen for a longtime fan. Still a Stranger, Pink Eyes, She Speaks The Language, and Dark Snow are all amazing. We'll see if this album withstands the test of time since I have not jammed it in awhile but I'm seeing them for my second time this year in a few weeks and I can't wait again.

After this band releases one of my favorite albums in post-hardcore, they unfortunately lose their screamer and change up the formula. Instead we get an album heavily influenced by The Mars Volta and it ends up being pretty good. Vocals definitely aren't amazing but they do a solid job. Some songs feel as if they are in desperate need of screaming but I still like this. Catalyst is a jam. Anhedonia and Metempsychosis also feature this band performing at their peak.
3Eternity Forever
Fantasy

This is so fire. I love Kurt and I really like the groove in all of these tracks. Letting Go and Movies are my favorites but definitely check out this whole EP.
4Mew
Visuals

A beautiful endeavor from one of the newest additions to my list of favorite bands. All of the tracks save for Shoulders are really something special and I can't wait to see these guys in August. Learn Our Crystals, Nothingness and No Regrets, The Wake of Your Life, Carry Me To Safety, Candy Pieces All Smeared, and Heavenly Jewel Thief (bonus track) are incredible.
5A Lot Like Birds
DIVISI

Yano overall, this is pretty good for the most part. Only song I don't care for is the awkward No Attention for Solved Puzzles while everything preceding it is fairly enjoyable save for the exceptional For Shelly (Unheard) which is a very beautiful and personal track for Cory. The last 4 tracks however might be my favorite run of music from this year so far. Like wow, I initially thought they were easily the best 4 on the album but they have grown on me to a point where I'd easily put the title track and Good Soil, Bad Seeds in my top ALLB tracks especially the former which might be my SOTY so far. I definitely hope we do not get another album as tame is this but if we do I hope they use these last 4 for influence.
6Dreamcar
DREAMCAR

An incredibly fun album that may even end up topping AFI's new album. Davey seems like he overall put way more into his performances here instead of Blood. The Assailant, After I Confess, and All of The Dead Girls are infectious.
7Death Grips
Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix)

it hurts really good

To Speak, To Listen

Haven't listened to much since it basically just came out but Tetelestai blew me away and I already thought it was the best track they have ever done save for just maybe Omega: Third Temple. After Loti, this album really starts picking up hard. A great performance from all members and I can really see this becoming my AOTY after I give it more time. Great for fans of detailed Post-Hardcore. It didn't grab me much first listen but the latter half really had me floored after a few more spins.
9The Mountain Goats
Goths

I need to listen to this band more because I always really enjoy everything I hear by them and this is no exception. A gorgeously chill record.
