Keybient

Part 2 of a series of terribly titled lists of my favorite albums from my favorite genres. Will probably do a couple more after this soon if I have time. So anyway, here are 33 x 2 of my favorite ambient albums.
1Tetsu Inoue
Ambiant Otaku

This album is nothing short of a journey. One minute (or 17) you're floating calmly in space, the next your sitting in a ring of tribal chants and dances. Every song is so different, yet they all hit just as hard. The closing track Magnetic Field is the song Eluvium has been trying to craft his whole career (don't get me wrong, he's come close :D). The best.
2Stars of the Lid
And their Refinement of the Decline

The most gorgeous album I have ever heard. No matter how much I listen to it, I am always awestruck by this album. Always.
3Biosphere
Substrata
4Tim Hecker
Ravedeath, 1972

The Piano Drop and In the Fog II are 2 of my favorite songs ever regardless of genre.
5Steve Roach
Structures from Silence
6Venn Rain
Cymatic Cymbols

If I ever got high, this would be the first album I would listen to. Hell, I get semi-high just listening to it. Hypnotic.
7Global Communication
76:14

Some of my favorite electronic cuts are on this album but the closer 12:18 is just jaw-dropping.
8Carbon Based Lifeforms
World of Sleepers

My favorite psybient album.
9Pete Namlook and Tetsu Inoue
Shades of Orion 2

A journey through space.
10Secede
Tryshasla

Only got into this a few months ago but it's already this high amongst my favorites. Future 5.
11Nobuto Suda
Modest Calm

Listen to this album during sunrise...just try it.
12Eluvium
Copia

If this had more of the droney tracks like Indoor Swimming and Seeing You off the Edges, instead of the piano based tracks (don't get me wrong, they're still great) this would be a hard 5.
13Boards of Canada
The Campfire Headphase
14A Winged Victory for the Sullen
A Winged Victory for the Sullen
15Bohren & der Club of Gore
Sunset Mission
16Brian Eno
Ambient 1: Music for Airports
17Panabrite
Xenon District

One of 2013's best albums.
18Stars of the Lid
The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid
19Stellar OM Source
Ocean Woman
20Higher Intelligence Agency and Biosphere
Polar Sequences
21Shpongle
Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost
22Hol Baumann
[ Human ]
23Grouper
Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill

Female vocals? Check. Dronez? Check. Masterful use of reverb? Check. I've come to love pretty much everything Liz has put out, but this is by far my favorite.
24Windy and Carl
Consciousness
25William Basinski
The Disintegration Loops III

The sounds of a decaying tape. Hearing the loops slowly but inevitably decay into nothingness sort of strikes a chord with you and reminds you of the similarities with human life. While at first being vibrant and full of life, we'll all eventually meet a similar fate.
26Solar Fields
Movements

The opening track Sol is one of my favorite songs ever.
27Quiet Evenings
Transcending Spheres
28Klaus Schulze
Irrlicht
29Pete Namlook and Tetsu Inoue
Shades of Orion
30Panabrite
Neptune Visions
31Tetsu Inoue
Organic Cloud
32Tycho
Dive
33Algol
Follow the Cepheid Light

Otherworldly space ambient that is a touch creepy.
34Ionosphere
Angular Momentum

Space ambient that is downright terrifying at times.
35Loscil
Sketches from New Brighton
36Tim Hecker
Harmony in Ultraviolet
37Mathias Grassow
Transpersonal
38Pete Namlook
Air II
39Galerie Stratique
Horizzzons
40Carbon Based Lifeforms

47Pete Namlook and Tetsu Inoue
2350 Broadway
48Tangerine Dream
Phaedra
49Shpongle
Tales of the Inexpressible
50Solar Fields
Altered - Second Movements

It's Movements, but redone in an even more chilled out ambient style. Amazing.
51Panabrite
The Baroque Atrium

Nothing but light synthy synthz. Can be a little lacking when you aren't in the mood, but when you are oh man.
52William Basinski
The Disintegration Loops IV
53MIKTEK
[ Elsewhere ]
54Asura
Life
55Hecq

Not normally a fan of this style of ambient, but goddamn does Helios get it right here.
61Saaad
Raincoats
62Saaad
Orbs and Channels
63Maps and Diagrams
Polytuft-Tech
64Mulm
The End of Greatness
