11.21.21 | Just send out to whoever you can. Do not be afraid to spam, someone will latch on eventually.
Will jam soon my friend! |

11.21.21 | I'll give that a whirl, thanks man. That's what I've wanted to do, but I also hate getting spam myself and I don't wanna become spam to someone else lol. But I think between like Lee Noble's label, or maybe whoever Zelienople is signed to, or even Tiny Mixtapes or something, I feel like I could fit in somewhere. I don't really even care about making any cash whatsoever. I just want to make music that someone other than me listens to. Maybe my music sucks, idk. But I feel like I could have an audience someday. |

11.21.21 | Yeah I could understand not liking that approach. I've never created my own music so I suppose I'm not in the best position for advice lol. Regardless dont worry about being a little forward, sometimes it can be brutal to get people to pay attention so you just gotta grind and get small wins where you can. |

11.21.21 | the key to getting independent success is to get playlisted on spotify these days, sites like submithub are really useful as you can push tracks directly towards curators
have a mate from uni who did this and is now sitting at 37k monthly listeners on spotify, got put on one of martin garrix's playlists as well as a couple of spotify official ones that do big numbers |
TheSonomaDude
11.21.21 | Honestly I have a lot of anxiety about pushing my art. But my best guess would be to get it out there as much as possible. Look up labels that have similar bands to you and get your recordings to them. Follow your gut. |

11.21.21 | One time I got banned for a day by a guy that used to be a mod that doesn’t post here anymore for posting my bands demo in a list |
butt.
11.21.21 | I push mine by hijacking threads like this heheh. dropped this single a couple weeks ago. upbeat/self-loathing/indie/punk whatever.

11.21.21 | And controlling comments. They used to delete my double posts even tho they were completely different comments, who cares if I double post? I had more to say that I didn’t think of until after the first comment 🙂 |

11.21.21 | Yo who was banning y'all for sharing your stuff? I've been on Sput for like at least a decade now and only got banned for a fake review i made about Trump's metal album and metal career in like 2011 lol. The mods didn't like that one. |
North0House2
11.21.21 | Good thoughts sinternet, I think I'll try that. I really do mostly just want to get on a little label though. I feel like Whited Sepulchre or something could be a good fit but I don't think they're looking right now. |
Iamthe Nightstars
11.21.21 | I guess what it really comes down to is making something that is really really good and hoping it gets to the right people and it catches on. But even then there's tons of great music that gets ignored or eventually forgotten and never gets the credit it deserves. I like to think that some of that will be rediscovered someday but that's hard to say with how much music gets released today. You can do your best to market it but luck is the biggest factor other than how good it is. |
Iamthe Nightstars
11.21.21 | Have you ever submitted your music to labels before North? If so have you gotten a response? |
MeatSalad
11.21.21 | I record myself taking a piss, flushing and then washing my hands using a Rock Band 2 microphone hooked up to my 2010 laptop, and then advertise it on Sputnikmusic.com using a list. Pretty normal imo |
MeatSalad
11.21.21 | I also got shit on by Jom when I posted my "music" page on Sput sending a personal email to me saying "you're not funny" and I mean, he wasn't wrong but like bruh |

11.21.21 | don’t ask me I am def still figuring it out hahah but sput is a tough crowd fs (;
contacting blogs / YouTube channels / playlists etc is a great way to start tho |

11.21.21 | create a rym artist profile - they can lay dormant for a while but there are always people trawling custom lists that might wander onto yours. just don’t be afraid of their ratings |

11.21.21 | @Meatsalad link to your album? |

11.21.21 | tweet once on bandcamp friday then never mention it again imo |

11.21.21 | dude meatsalad your music sounds amazing. |

11.21.21 | I'm probably just gonna spam some labels I guess. Sounds like that's the way. lol |
TheSonomaDude
11.21.21 | I am finna do that too. Most seem to require physical copies so get that CD burner ready |
Sinternet
11.21.21 | haha can certainly work
if you want to do that approach there's some general rules about doing so
if you don't have a decent-size following beforehand try focusing on smaller labels, but those that have a decently committed fanbase that fit your style appropriately. labels that have a following based on the label itself and not just a couple of artists have better crossover appeal fron new artists.
also don't commit the cardinal sin of messaging multiple labels at the time. make a ranked list of who to send it to, then work your way down the list one at a time, giving each label a couple of weeks to reply. send them a gentle reminder if they don't respond within that time if you want but don't pester them. if you message multiple labels and two get back to you saying they're interested in releasing your music, you'd have to say no to one of them, and that's the easiest way to burn bridges in the industry possible.
when you message them, do some research beforehand about artists on the label, what the label stands for, how you fit into that description and releases from the label you've enjoyed, and include that in your message. in the email, send your music as a private soundcloud link. usual practice is to send a maximum of two or three songs to them (assuming its an album), but if you do send the whole thing (say in a private soundcloud playlist) mention in your email or dm a couple of songs you think best reflect the project as a whole - most labels don't have time to listen to a whole album straight away unless they're are already interested or reach out to you. |

11.21.21 | I've emailed so many labels, blogs, websites, etc. Guess I suck! |
