04.05.11 | Yeah I picked up alot off that 100 jazz list. I reckon Kind of Blue is the best starting point, not just because it's pretty easy to listen to and it rules, but it can open doors and lead you to just about anywhere musically. (eg Coltrane plays on that so it can lead you to his avant-garde/free jazz stuff, you can follow Miles into fusion, which can lead you to rock etc, retrace his steps to bebop, you can dig Bill Evans and end up listening to classical piano...)
The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is probably my favourite jazz album. |

04.05.11 | @liled: I acquired all the miles you recommended :) I also nabbed some John Coltrane and the Charles Mingus albums you suggested!
I'll have to work on finding the others!!
I also got all of these:
Ella Fitzgerald
Wynton Marsalis
Stan Getz
Branford Marsalis
Billie Holiday
Charlie Parker
I'm working on getting some Dizzy Gilespie too ;) |

04.05.11 | nice. like chrisjon said, just follow those main artists, check out the people they played with, the styles they created etc. its one of the easiest genres to find great music in once you get started. |
