Narshh
05.02.11 | haha |
twlight
05.02.11 | if you start with deviant it'll be over your head.
start here
The Flashbulb- Love As A Dark Hallway (Electronic with lots of jazz guitar)
Clubroot- Clubroot (minimal dubstep)
Clubroot- II MMX (atmospheric dubstep)
Shpongle- Ineffable Mysteries of Shpongleland (psychedelic trance with world influence)
Noisia- Split the Atom (hard hitting mix of dubstep and drum in bass)
Ital Tek- Midnight Colour (spacey dubstep)
Ott- Mir (psychedelic electronica, kinda similar to shpongle)
Air- Moon Safari (trip-hop)
Massive Attack- Mezzanine (you've probably heard of this, trip-hop)
good starting point here... i get mostly all my electronic from deviant |
Deviant.
05.02.11 | There is no dubstep in Noisia |
twlight
05.02.11 | shitbox, leakage, headnot |
Deviant.
05.02.11 | Slow tempo and some bass doesn't equal dubstep. Learn this now |
twlight
05.02.11 | then what the flying fuck is it deviant, i'm confused about what = trip hop, what = dubstep, because
you classify things strangely i think and it is confusing me |
Deviant.
05.02.11 | How do I classify thing strangely?
Noisia are predominantly a drum & bass outfit who also make electro and breaks tracks. Those tracks you mentioned are just interludes, just some beats to separate the tracks |
twlight
05.02.11 | This is true. I've just listening to a lot of stuff from devstep and its hard to figure out which of those albums should be labeled as "dubstep", "trip-hop", "trance" or just "electronica". The fact that the sputnik database labels pretty much every electronic artist as "electronica" doesn't really help either when i'm trying to classify an artist in the right genre |
Deviant.
05.02.11 | Nothing should be labelled electronica so forget about that. And everything on that list is related in some way to dubstep. What albums are you exactly having trouble with? |
twlight
05.02.11 | Ott- Mir for awhile, but then some dubstep entered randomly in one of the tracks, loving that album by
the way. Also the Aucan and Jamie Woon were interesting just sounded way different from a lot of
dubstep i have. The Flashbulb- Love As A Dark Hallway as well. |
Deviant.
05.02.11 | The Flashbulb isn't on that list. Aucan mixes in a lot of styles, dubstep being one of them (surprisingly, their first album is a math rock album). So does Ott, and he's always been a dub artist. I mentioned this in the little blurb for him |
twlight
05.02.11 | Hmmm interesting.
thanks
one more question before i annoy the living shit out of you (probably already have)
difference between DUB and DUBSTEP? |
Chrisjon89
05.02.11 | Bjork - Homogenic
David Bowie - 'Low', 'Heroes' (the second halves particularly)
Dunno if that's the kind of thing you're after, but three very highly regarded albums. |
Deviant.
05.02.11 | "one more question before i annoy the living shit out of you (probably already have)
difference between DUB and DUBSTEP?"
In a really simple description, Dub is a funked up version of reggae. Dubstep is a mix of that and 2-step (which is garage) |
twlight
05.02.11 | cool. i learn something new every day in the world of electro
|

05.02.11 | What's 'engrossing' about dubstep exactly?

05.02.11 | I started listening to Kraftwerk today...a lot different then what I usually listen too but I think I'll definitely end up liking a good amount of this genre |
aok
05.02.11 | kraftwerk's very ... different. a cool place to start though cause they've influenced so many artists over the years |
Narshh
05.02.11 | yeah i gotchaa and now i finished burial...its not as good as kraftwerk but its definitely more like the type of music i was looking for |
Narshh
05.03.11 | damnit i thought 2011 had taken a break from releasing amazing albums so I'd have time for all these...but now I just started listening to simple math as my first Manchester Orchestra album and its so gooooooooooooooood |
