Stuff I Didn't Like: 2015 Edition

Pretty much, yeah.
1Ranger
Where Evil Dwells

Not offensively bad, more just disappointing. The EPs were fun, but the vocal performance is significantly weaker than it previously had been, which was a problem I couldn't personally look past enough to give it a higher score.
2Jungle Rot
Order Shall Prevail

Generic. There's barely anything that can be said about this album. It's not memorable, it's not something you want to come back to, it's just a sub-par thrash album. It won't hurt to listen to, but it'll be fairly boring.
3Powermad
Infinite

Powermad last released an album in 1989. It feels like that statement is still true, as this feels like a Nevermore side-project. Flashes of Absolute Power shine through every now and again, but Joel Dubay's vocal capabilities have obviously waned after a quarter-century. The group tries to make up for it with aggression, but it really does just come off as a faster Nevermore in too many instances, and it doesn't add up to anything pleasing, at least not on the whole.
4Sylosis
Dormant Heart

I really wanted this album to be the one that helps me understand why Sylosis is as popular as they are, but it just left me with even more questions than ever. Tracks drag on longer than necessary, and by extension, so does the album. Everything the group seems to attempt has been done better by Battlecross, so Sylosis comes off, once again, as simply outclassed. Albums shouldn't feel like a chore, but Dormant Heart is simply not worth sitting through in its entirety. Again, individual tracks won't necessarily offend or hurt, but the album is notably bloated.
5Five Finger Death Punch
Got Your Six

Come on, you knew it had to be here. I've never hopped on the Five Finger Death Punch hate-train; their first two albums were at least alright-ish. Beyond that, though, it does get very bad. Here's probably their worst outing yet. It's very clear that the group is out of ideas, and so tries to play up their image of machismo more and more with each album. This doesn't work out since that seems to be the primary reason everybody hates them. Digging My Own Grave is a fair track, and Boots and Blood is fucking hilarious. That's probably the only thing keeping this from being a 1/5.
6All That Remains
The Order of Things

It's too easy to make a joke about the album opening with "This Probably Won't End Well". I would rather just agree with the song's title and be done with it.
7Okilly Dokilly
Okilly Demos

Being a silly novelty group is not an excuse for being awful. Okilly Dokilly is awful. End of story. Shrugging it off as "just a joke group" isn't good enough, because it's just about as lazy a joke as one can make. "Hey, we dressed up as this character and used some quotes as lyrics" is the extent of what's going on here. Musically, it sounds awful, while as a joke, it has no substance and can't entertain beyond "huh, weird concept". Novelty groups don't have to be bad; remember Puig Destroyer? Sure, it was a trend, but the album itself was actually alright. This one is not.
