03.26.11 | yeah just get some Death, Morbid Angel, Ulcerate, Suffocation, Gorguts, Incantation, Carcass etc and you will feel a lot better about yourself
if you need some "transition" stuff I guess get The Red Chord and maybe the last two Cephalic Carnage albums |
stillexist
03.26.11 | Ignore all the elitists who are recommending straight up death metal. Based on your list, I'm assuming you want stuff that is deathcore but with an emphasis on the death. Therefore, from the above recs you've gotten I would focus on
Glass Casket - We are gathered here today
Red Chord - Fed Through the Teeth Machine
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis
And I would add
Arkangel - Are Your Enemy
Through the Eyes of the Dead - Malice
All of these feature heavy doses of "true" death metal, but aren't straight up death metal like many of the recs on here. All the shit that gets talked about deathcore is ridiculous in my opinion. If anything, deathcore offers more variety than straight up death like Morbid Angel, Suffocation, etc. Good "core" based music is not just about breakdowns, it's also about groove, head spinning riffs, unusual power chord progressions and noisy elements, along with vocals that go beyond generic gutturals |

Just more good death metal. |

03.26.11 | FUCK YEAH CLOSE-MINDED ELITISM! |
YetAnotherBrick
03.26.11 | And sorry to comment again, but whoever said that people who are recommending straight up death metal are elitists is an idiot. Death metal obviously had a pretty big influence on deathcore, so chances are, a deathcore fan will probably like at least some good, classic, pure, rawuglynasty death metal. |

03.26.11 | I was merely commenting on the fact that Deathcore/Death Metal implies a mix of the two, not either or. Oh well, I guess I'm a "faggot" for offering my like, opinion, man. Nonetheless, anybody who says a person who doesn't like death metal is "scene" is just a stinky faced poop head. I love death metal and probably know more about it than most on this site, but some kids just don't dig Morbid Angel, who in some ways are just fucking ridiculous and way "stupider" than a lot of deathcore bands. |
stillexist
03.26.11 | I mean "Altars of Madness" is great, but from "Blessed are the Sick" on they just sound kinda dumb in my oh so humble opinion |
YetAnotherBrick
03.26.11 | I never said death metal > deathcore, or vice versa. I don't know if you're talking to me specifically or whatever, but like I said, I just recced some death metal not only 'cause it's awesome, but because there's a pretty good chance a kid who's into deathcore would like it. |
stillexist
03.26.11 | Actually I will take accountability for not watching my words. You guys are correct that it was perfectly valid to suggest straight up death metal to this cat. I made the elitist comment because some people were saying or insinuating that deathcore is inferior to death metal. I just was trying to make recs that are similar to what he had on his list, but in retrospect, there is nothing wrong with recommending straight up DM. And yeah, I do think deathcore fans should try out the original stuff, I just know from experience that some kids just find that stuff a little dated and silly, that's all. Sorry if I got a little inflamed, I need to be more careful with my words |
YetAnotherBrick
03.26.11 | No problem, man. And also, I do agree some old-school stuff is a bit dated and cheesy and whatnot, but not all of it is, certainly not what I recc'd lol. |
stillexist
03.26.11 | Yeah, I mean I don't think good DM is ever cheesy, but I could see how some would find it to be so. Good thrash, however, now that can sound cheesy! |

There's nothing wrong with him listening to deathcore over death metal. If death metal is as superior as you claim, then your recs should be sufficient, no? |
