North0House 12.28.10	I do think that there is such a thing as bad music. Bad music is a passionless beast of commercialism. Wow, that made me sound like sort of Anarchist. However, I do believe that if an artist does what he does only to gain money and fame, it is bad music... No matter the genre or talent of the musician, he can only make good music if he does it for others.
DinoX 12.28.10	On a related note, music affects people in different ways and people have different tastes. Music can unarguably better lyrical and technical wise but that does not mean someone will enjoy it. If someone does is not entertained or does not enjoy a band then why should they praise and listen to them? Music is about what people can find relate to their lives. I am sure some look at a Lady Gaga song and think it totally relates to their life. Isn't that the whole point of powerful lyrics? It is so that they can connect to people and they can be inspired by that. TL;DR- some people are simple minded and like simple music, music isn't bad it is simple.

TheStefan 12.28.10	i think its the same thing with any other form of art. there are things called "high art" within a medium, and "low art" within a medium. although to deem one "bad" is probably incorrect as it is all subjective, but there are definitely ranges within the medium. For example, Mozart or Brahms would probably be considered "high music" and something like Ke$ha and Miley Cyrus is probably considered low. We shouldn't judge people whether they enjoy high or low music, just as people aren't judged by their enjoyment of other mediums. For example, some people enjoy listening to a comedian more than reading a great book, even though comedy is considered "low art" and literature is one of the "highest" forms of art.

However, it is still music, no matter how artistically "low" it is. music is defined as the art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. if this artist expresses himself in ridiculous beats and off key vocals, and someone sees it as harmonious and beautiful, well then, it's music
