Electronic You Should Own
Twenty of my favorite electronic albums including trip-hop, drum and rbass, electronica, trance and ambient. Good addition to any music rlovers collection |
1 | | Noisia Split the Atom
I found out about this album from none other than the infamous Deviant, and
damn did it impress me. The bass practically soaks through the speakers in this
album and the tracks featuring Foreign Beggars destroy face. Probably my favorite
electronic album from 2010 and a must have. |
2 | | Bassnectar Cozza Frenzy
One of the first dub-step albums i really got into. Songs Cozza Frenzy and
Boombox alone are worth your time. A fresh, fun album. |
3 | | Tim Hecker Ravedeath, 1972
Tim Hecker manages to achieve a diverse and entertaining sonic landscape on this
release. Ambient is a genre that can often bore listeners, but i found this album to
be an ambient album that both invokes a variety of emotions and is very relaxing.
It does this without becoming dull or boring. |
4 | | The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble Here Be Dragons
Another ambient album that really grabbed my attention from the first time i listened
to it. Every song produces a unique and dark atmosphere. Beautiful vocal samples
will creep into the picture at different points of the album along with brass solos and
jazz drumming. This is the most enjoyable ambient-infused album i have encountered. |
5 | | Ital Tek Midnight Colour
This album is SEXY. Its displays an awesome mix of dub-step and trip-hop that I
haven't heard from any artist before. Songs like Babel and Strangelove VIP show off
some deep and powerful bass you'll find in many dubstep songs, while songs like
Subgiant and Moment in Blue dive more into the trip-hop area with their wide variety
of sounds and beat structures. Sounds like what would happen if Flying Lotus
decided to make a more dance orientated album. Absolutely astonishing. Came out
in 2010 |
6 | | Mimosa Silver Lining
Another 2010 gem. Sits more in your straight up WHOMP style of dub-step, but
some of the best "WHOMP" I've listened to. |
7 | | Skrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Most of the sputnik community is probably familiar with this album, mostly because of its presence in the
top EP's of 2010, but there is really no denying
the power of this album. Skrillex has managed to find the perfect mix between ridiculously hard-hitting
dubstep and spacey trance to make this a very
entertaining album. You'll find it hard to find a more bass heavy and intense
dub-step album. |
8 | | Burial Untrue
2010 happened to be the first year that i owned and listened to this album. At first i
wasn't too into it. Nothing seemed to jump out at me, though i enjoyed his use of vocal samples and the
interesting beats present in every song, i just didn't understand it. But
after a few more listens it hit me. This is the soundtrack to a dark night in the city. You
can see the cloud of pollution rise from the buildings as you enter the city. You can see
the streetlights blur as you travel through the streets, down dark alleys and under
overpasses. Entering the club of packed with strangers and dizzying lights. And finally
finding yourself in McDonalds to cure some late night hunger. |
9 | | Clive Tanaka Y Su Orquesta Jet Set Siempre No. 1
Chill and Dance. Came out in 2010 |
10 | | Deadmau5 4x4=12
Some people will write this album off as repetitive trance that goes no where, but
i actually enjoyed the simplicity of this album. City in Florida will always get the
party bumpin. Some good trance from the genres leading man. |
11 | | Hallucinogen Twisted
Now this is some great freaking trance. This music is created by one of the two
guys who make up the trance group Shpongle. If the name alone doesn't get you
interested, then ten minute trance epic Alpha Centauri should do the trick. If you
are looking for some music to restore your faith in trance music this is it... though it
came out in 1995 lol |
12 | | Shpongle Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland
Some more classic trance. I love world-music vibe these guys bring into their
music and the use of epic flute solos at the most perfect times. This album is
TRIPPY. If you dig trippy, chill-out-styled music, this is another must have. |
13 | | Shpongle Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost
If you're going to get some music by Shpongle you need both albums. This one
is just as awesome. |
14 | | Emancipator Safe In The Steep Cliffs
Awesome instrumental trip-hop. It's very laid back and good to throw on in
you're stressed out and need to be transported away from your worries. |
15 | | Flying Lotus Cosmogramma
I consider myself somewhat of a fan boy of whatever Steven Ellison creates.
He has a talent and skill of creating some of the most mind-boggling sounds
and beats. I don't know how his music comes together but it creates
something truly original and otherworldly. |
16 | | Massive Attack Mezzanine
Considered to be the most classic trip-hop album that helped pave the way to
many other artists emerging on the scene. Psychedelic and sensual. |
17 | | Bong-Ra Full Metal Racket
Seems like no one knows about this album... its really good. A mix of hardcore
and dissonant guitars and blast beat electronic??? Anyways i don't now how the
hell to describe this album but it's worth a listen. |
