02.24.12 | Is this about sex addiction?
Because it's a real problem. |
Samshine

Acanthus
02.24.12 | Did I mention the manic depressive producer whores his music out whenever possible, to the exclusion of all else?
@pizza - thanks sir, most of these are good though 2 is a real trial of love.
@Samshine - part of my life, recent events, etc |
Emim
02.24.12 | Yeah I just commented based off of the title, now I'm not sure if it applies to the content or not... |
MO
02.24.12 | "not entirely sure what i just read"
it's the first 2 words of the first description, the rest is pretty self explanatory |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | @Emim - I hear there are hotlines you can call to help with that problem, their rates are very affordable. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | @Metallic - it's a pretty normal part of club life here, I forget that elsewhere that's not the case. |
MO
02.24.12 | Yea that's interesting we have nothing like that around here, at least that I know of. All we have an upscale consumer show called "Sexapalooza" which gives you a glimpse into some wicked shit. But no actual clubs. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | The venues just hearing about these really enjoy the concept, sadly the first few were the best we've ever had. |
Emim
02.24.12 | Never been to a club in my life which may have something to do with it. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | Clubs are fun, I'd recommend going sometime for sure. |
North0House2
02.24.12 | "not entirely sure what i just read"
Same. It was something about fetish shows. So, I guess that means people were just licking feet at some club on stage or something. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | "not entirely sure what i just read"
You read about the over saturation my towns club scene is enduring due to the influx of too many fetish shows in a short period of time. These are not high quality shows, but rather amateurs with little organization, even less microphone presence (essential for announcing upcoming scenes), and funded by people willing to continue to pay as little as possible for the events setup. |
Vesper
02.24.12 | Acanthus, you know that you, me, and Haz are the only ones who are (openly) into this kind of thing. The rest of Sputnik is just incredibly bemused by the entire culture, I think. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | I forget that easily, I still maintain the list was pretty straightforward though. |
Vesper
02.24.12 | Yeah, it was straightforward - sucks that happens (anytime something goes mainstream...). I think the wut-type comments just reflect how relatively uncommon fetish culture is. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | I don't mind it going places, I want it to reflect well on the culture though and not be this... this cheap. |
Vesper
02.24.12 | Of course - but the cheapening effect is kind of an inevitable by-product of mainstream appropriation, I think. Not everyone wants to dedicate the time/money towards a strong scene, especially if they're just in it for the curiosity, so you get these shitty knock-offs. |

Trebor.
02.24.12 | I'm 10 and what is this? |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | @Vesper - the same thing is happening to the local body suspension group, though to a lesser extent due to the relative hardcore nature of the act.
@iswimfast - Midwest MO actually, surprising right? Our scene started with a now well known DJ always being down in Fayetteville, AK in the early 90's. |
iswimfast
02.24.12 | Very surprising haha. Damn east coast conservatives** don't let our culture expand. |
Vesper
02.24.12 | 'nu-uh'
I mean more that people haven't actually been involved in any way, lol. I'm sure most people know what fetish culture is (on at least a pretty superficial level).
@Acanthus - I'm sure that body suspension will remain relatively underground, ha. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | @iswimfast - I want to go to an actual fetish club someday, but who knows if it will happen.
@Vesper - idk, when people you dislike join and then talk about the "pain" constantly it seems a lot less underground than one might desire. |
MO
02.24.12 | "I mean more that people haven't actually been involved in any way, lol."
yea thats fair, but did you mean part of it as in really participate in fetish shows or are just down for the kinky? |
Vesper
02.24.12 | "idk, when people you dislike join and then talk about the "pain" constantly it seems a lot less underground than one might desire."
Haha, so this has a personal element, I see... but, yeah, those sorts of braggarts are present in most subcultures, and there's not much you can do about it, unfortunately. They'll never be important in the scene, so fuck 'em.
"yea thats fair, but did you mean part of it as in really participate in fetish shows or are just down for the kinky?"
Just people who are kinky, although there's not that much distinction, especially at events where people are openly engaging in fetish acts, even if it's not a formal performance. |
AngelofDeath
02.24.12 | Do they have conventions for turkey slapping old ladies? |

02.24.12 | acanthus i can honestly say you're one of the best/nicest users on this site, and i really do think
you're a cool guy but holy fuck i just don't get this fetish stuff. maybe i'm just closed minded or
maybe it's my catholic upbringing but what is the appeal of stuff like body suspension. it's just
boderline-psychotic. the bdsm scene has always been one of the few subcultures that i'm legitimately
disturbed and horrified by. idk it's just not something i'm ever going to understand. sorry for the
rant but i just had to say it. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | It's cool man, I don't mind. It wasn't something I grew up in at all (Baptist upbringing, Father and Grandfather pastors, etc). Once I started listening to industrial/dressing different I kinda found the scene randomly, and once I started DJ'ing it became a part of life (spurred on my an extremely strange first girlfriend). The body suspension didn't really become a fixture until around 2009(?) or so, but even then it wasn't widely known or seen around town.
As Vesper noted there's some personal aspects to my disgruntled view on the current situation, one of them being my take on fetishes. Being a smaller city the number of people I can vent to without getting someone;s feelings hurt and getting kicked off the bill/shunned for awhile is relatively few, so I use Sputnik.
I don't expect everyone to understand, I just enjoy having your day be a bit more interesting online. |
auberginedreams
02.24.12 | well thanks for understanding, it's just not something i'm ever going to be into lol. |
Acanthus
02.24.12 | Rest assured you're not the only one, no hard feelings at all. Even within the scene there's people who won't come to the show if the body suspension is booked lol |
MO
02.24.12 | "and i really do think you're a cool guy but holy fuck i just don't get this fetish stuff."
Its all about being open-minded. For example sex can get boring fast, so people need different things in order to make their sex lives more exciting. So they try different things. For some people it gets to the point where ordinary sex is a walk in the park and they need something REALLY intense to bring about certain sensations. Theres nothing wrong with it, and its interesting that youre horrified by it, but I can see why, its definitely not for everyone. |
