02.20.12 | First room party and I must say no one beat our sound or crowd for the entire weekend.
Also a huge plus was no one spilled beer on my gear. |
PistolPete
02.20.12 | sounds greezy, kudos |
Acanthus
02.20.12 | It was pretty cool and we went all over the place genre wise, made me glad to have what music I had. |
Eclecticist
02.20.12 | slutty cowgirls, awesome |
Acanthus
02.20.12 | Yeah, was a first; never seen anybody line dance to Mudvayne before. |
Recspecs
02.21.12 | Line dancing to the vayne??
Hahahahaha sounds like a good ass time. Are you a full time DJ or is it more of a weekend hobby? |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | I do whatever I can when the opportunity presents itself, I'm a resident on the Industrial night so far. |
Recspecs
02.21.12 | Nice, I've always wanted to dip my feet in the waters of music production/DJing. |
Deviant.
02.21.12 | Mix live? |
ReturnOfTheDnor
02.21.12 | It's not a party unless the DJ gets a blowjob... |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | @Deviant - Of course sir, though I have yet to record any mixes yet. I seem to only remember to do that when I'm at home, and at home I want to listen to different stuff than when I DJ.
No blowjobs, but great times nonetheless. |
Deviant.
02.21.12 | Well if you can mix live there's really no need to record any pre-show. Unless you're making them for friends etc |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | One of the upcoming gigs I got is used to having the DJ's that are/have
A) Be producers
B) Be signed to a production group (utter crap if you ask me)
C) Have a genre they play in, like just one tag (no clue what's up with that)
D) And finally have a mix put together/DJ page on FB
So I might be using a mix for that but if I can get away with it I'll do the night without posting one. |
Tyrannic
02.21.12 | sounds legit as fuck man, does the list have anything to do with your set? |
Deviant.
02.21.12 | "C) Have a genre they play in, like just one tag (no clue what's up with that)"
That's just their way of knowing that you're able to make a cohesive mix without resorting to having to switch things up to sustain the beat. A mix is supposed to be x amount of tracks put together to form one cohesive movement. Plus some bars/venues might exclusively limit themselves to one genre depending on management's request so you have to show that you can abide by that |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | Everything on it but 1 I played, the Pendulum went over really well as did the Audio surprisingly enough. |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | @Deviant - Didn't think about it like that, they used to be just dubstep but are changing it over to anything EDM related. |
Deviant.
02.21.12 | Yeah like I said, it all depends on the venue. Like if you were to dj at a more mainstream venue, they gotta know that in the middle of all those top 40 house remixes Skrillex won't make a surprise appearance |
Tyrannic
02.21.12 | what track from pendulum? |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | Very true, I've just been trusted so far/been able to do as I please at the nights I've played at so it surprised me.
@Tyrannic - I played many, the night started off with Chemical Brothers/The Crystal Method and then dropped into DNB bpm range. After that I went into the 140's with dubstep, and then ended the night with House remixes. Granite, The Island Part 1 and 2, as well as Salt In The Wounds all made appearances at one time or another. |
Tyrannic
02.21.12 | i would have lost my shit during Salt. |
Acanthus
02.21.12 | Oh it was fun seeing people love the tracks, I just wish I had some of the remixes; still need to get those. |
