BallsToTheWall 06.27.11	Let Me In was such a waste of time compared to Let The Right One In. The Swedes need to be pissed off at us for aping two of their own. But the trailer of the American GWTDT looks really good. I really like that Daniel Craig is the lead, something that could have been improved on in the Swedish one. The girl in the enw one has a very unique look but isn't Noomi Rapace. Also stoked to hear that Noomi Rapace will be in the new Sherlock Holmes movie along with the new Alien movie with Michael Fassbender.

But the male lead in the original film was a fat lazy dude, don't get me wrong i loved the movie and he was alright but Craig is gonna bring in some physicality and a needed tough guy element. I wonder how they will cover the Swedish nazi part though.
Acanthus 06.27.11	Craig will indeed, but I never thought that was the point of the character. I am biased though, disliked him as James Bond quite a bit. Thanks for the link, I haven't followed Prometheus is awhile.
BallsToTheWall 06.28.11	Last two Bond movies were solid, Casino Royale being amazing and Quatum being slimmer/ worse. He ruled in both though, he picked up where those pansies left off and brought in ruthless edge, a violent streak and a dont give a fuck attitude.
Acanthus 06.28.11	I just didn't feel Bond from him, it was more of a "this movie should be titled Daniel Craig" - he's undeniably a bad ass, just I don't like what he's offered so far. I really hope this film gives him more depth and lets him show his acting skills. The peircings being wrong still pisses me off, it's rather easy to get the right ones I'd think.

Acanthus 06.28.11	I never looked at it that way Deviant, you might have a point there. Fincher has done good work in the past, and the film will probably be good, I just dislike us bastardising things and twisting it from the source material like this is all.

It all depends on the changes themselves and whether they're designed to make the film more accessible for a western audience etc. If at the end of the day all the movie accomplishes is that more people will feel compelled to read the books then the film will have ultimately done some good

Acanthus 06.28.11	@ telex - Battle LA had too many things going on for its own good. In that sense it will be a success, though I feel people are missing out on the films intended language (love subs), not to mention the intermission when you watch one of the films in the theatre.
BallsToTheWall 06.28.11	It was the same fucking movie as the original but in New Mexico rather than Sweden, with only minor changes/additions to the same plot/ending/etc. Pretty pointless adaption already especially since the original was so great.

Acanthus 06.28.11	Yeah Deviant that's the type of theatres I watched this film in, made the experience a lot nicer but the audience didn't top 50 people.

Speaking of Memento, take a look at Insomnia by Nolan. That's a remake of a film I was totally unaware of until after I saw his version, and because of that I went and checked out the original

Most foreign films outside of the obvious places are never going to be able to compete with the bigger companies because of very simple reasons. They don't have the funds to promote their movies on a global scale and in the mainstream (signs on buses, ads on tv etc) + foreign language films obviously aren't as appealing to everyone

Gundlach 06.29.11	Haven't seen the Swedish movie, but the lead in the novel was supposed to be ex-military physique so Craig is probably a fine choice.
