06.27.11 | Also new Peter Murphy sounds, well, like Peter Murphy. |

06.27.11 | Let Me In was such a waste of time compared to Let The Right One In. The Swedes need to be pissed off at us for aping two of their own. But the trailer of the American GWTDT looks really good. I really like that Daniel Craig is the lead, something that could have been improved on in the Swedish one. The girl in the enw one has a very unique look but isn't Noomi Rapace. Also stoked to hear that Noomi Rapace will be in the new Sherlock Holmes movie along with the new Alien movie with Michael Fassbender. |
Trebor.
06.27.11 | I trust David Fincher |
mariothehedgehog
06.27.11 | Noomi and Fassbender in the same movie sounds choice. |
Acanthus
06.27.11 | Daniel Craig is too macho, though that's how America likes their male leads. Noomi Rapace is in the new Alien AND Sherlock Holmes??? Sweet news, something right in this world! |
BallsToTheWall
06.27.11 | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus_%28film%29, Prometheus also has Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Idris Elba.
But the male lead in the original film was a fat lazy dude, don't get me wrong i loved the movie and he was alright but Craig is gonna bring in some physicality and a needed tough guy element. I wonder how they will cover the Swedish nazi part though. |
Acanthus
06.27.11 | Craig will indeed, but I never thought that was the point of the character. I am biased though, disliked him as James Bond quite a bit.
Thanks for the link, I haven't followed Prometheus is awhile. |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | Last two Bond movies were solid, Casino Royale being amazing and Quatum being slimmer/ worse. He ruled in both though, he picked up where those pansies left off and brought in ruthless edge, a violent streak and a dont give a fuck attitude. |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | I just didn't feel Bond from him, it was more of a "this movie should be titled Daniel Craig" - he's undeniably a bad ass, just I don't like what he's offered so far. I really hope this film gives him more depth and lets him show his acting skills.
The peircings being wrong still pisses me off, it's rather easy to get the right ones I'd think. |

06.28.11 | Movies are amazing. |

06.28.11 | I trust David Fincher [2] |

06.28.11 | "Not really"
Regarding??? |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | Ruled in Defiance, Layer Cake and Munich. Probaly gonna rule in Cowboys and Aliens. Hell, he's pretty much Bruce Willis in any type of acting part but fuck it, dudes a bamf. |

His interpretation was a lot like the original vision of Bond though
+ this is Fincher we're talking about here.... |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | I never looked at it that way Deviant, you might have a point there. Fincher has done good work in the past, and the film will probably be good, I just dislike us bastardising things and twisting it from the source material like this is all. |
Athom
06.28.11 | i hated the movie (girl with the dragon tattoo) |

I can see where you're coming from with this, and i am inclined to agree. It all depends on the changes themselves and whether they're designed to make the film more accessible for a western audience etc. If at the end of the day all the movie accomplishes is that more people will feel compelled to read the books then the film will have ultimately done some good |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | Let's just talk about how much of a waste of time Let Me In Was. |
Deviant.
06.28.11 | Didn't see it |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | @ telex - Battle LA had too many things going on for its own good.
In that sense it will be a success, though I feel people are missing out on the films intended language (love subs), not to mention the intermission when you watch one of the films in the theatre. |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | It was the same fucking movie as the original but in New Mexico rather than Sweden, with only minor changes/additions to the same plot/ending/etc. Pretty pointless adaption already especially since the original was so great. |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | I've heard the same about the film Balls, neglected to go see it due to that. |
Deviant.
06.28.11 | "Pretty pointless adaption already especially since the original was so great.'
Yeah, but how many people who might have been enticed to go and see the remake had actually heard off/seen the original? Out my way, the original was relegated to more arthouse cinemas, not your commercial run of the mill chain movie theaters |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | I hoped for more but alas was dissapointed. Oh well, gonna go fuck off for a minute and watch Memento. |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | Yeah Deviant that's the type of theatres I watched this film in, made the experience a lot nicer but the audience didn't top 50 people. |
Deviant.
06.28.11 | Yeah but what I'm saying is that all the remake may have accomplished is exposing the story to a wider group of people who might otherwise have not heard of it. Speaking of Memento, take a look at Insomnia by Nolan. That's a remake of a film I was totally unaware of until after I saw his version, and because of that I went and checked out the original |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | wait...arthouse cinemas.....I need to come across one of those, all I really do is scour The Criterion Collection's site, find movies with an interest plot and order them from amazon or get them from movie stop if possible. |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | They're rather fun Balls, watching foreign films and such.
@Deviant - you are correct sir, it just is sad that it needs to be that way. |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | Need to find one in Florida. |

06.28.11 | Cool. Do these places play new and old? For the past few months i've been obsessed with early arthouse. Recently i've seen Vampyr and The Cranes Are Flying. |
Deviant.
06.28.11 | "@Deviant - you are correct sir, it just is sad that it needs to be that way."
Yeah, but what are you gonna do. Most foreign films outside of the obvious places are never going to be able to compete with the bigger companies because of very simple reasons. They don't have the funds to promote their movies on a global scale and in the mainstream (signs on buses, ads on tv etc) + foreign language films obviously aren't as appealing to everyone |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | Agreed, at least I own the originals and can feel like a movie snob if I get the urge. Hollywood does ok, they just irk me from time to time. |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | Let's see America promote A Serbian Film LOLOLOLOLOL |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | @Balls - not sure, seemed like a good list of places spread over Florida though. The one I in my town stays pretty current, though they'll advertise if they have an older film playing. As for a Serbian film I'd be down for it. |
omnipanzer
06.28.11 | I'm not looking forward to these either. |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | I will more than likely go see them, but it will make my blood boil on some level I'm sure. |
Cerbyrus
06.28.11 | I'm pretty sure Fincher's doing his own interpretation, and not remaking the original. |
omnipanzer
06.28.11 | ^ oh thank god just what we needed...
I love foreign films and hate when we co-op them. We always seem to miss the Je ne sais quoi. |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | So stoked for Del Toro's Are You Afraid of the Dark |

06.28.11 | Wow, I missed quite a good conversation. Dragon Tattoo is great. I'm sure Let Me In was pretty bad. Eastern Promises is such an ace Russian film, just watched it recently. |
DiceMan
06.28.11 | Criterion collection has so much amazing shit, have yyou checked out The Battle of Algiers or The Passion of Joan of Arc yet Balls?
Also I really hated this movie...
+Memento is obnoxious |
BallsToTheWall
06.28.11 | No Diceman, my next movies to acquire include Empire of Passion, Repulsion, The Sword of Doom, Diabolique, The Virgin Spring, Ikiru, Wild Strawberries and Ballad of a Soldier. Im turning into an Ingmar Bergman fanboy. |
DiceMan
06.28.11 | Only bergman I've seen is The Seventh Seal 8( but seriously man check out Passion of Joan of Arc it's fuckin beautiful. Renee falconetti nearly got kubrick-style tortured so they got the perfect shots of her facial expressions. What'd you say is Bergman's best? |
Acanthus
06.28.11 | Sounds like I've got more films to watch, thanks guys! |
crazyblinddude
06.28.11 | I'm actually kinda looking forward to it. It could end up pretty swell. And at the very least I'm sure the soundtrack will be pretty sick since Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are working on it. |
defjaw83
06.28.11 | I actually thought Let Me In was a pretty good movie, and I LOVE Let The Right One In. It offered something different enough to warrant being made, and as Deviant said, it reached a lot more people than the first movie.
Fincher's Dragon Tattoo will undoubtedly rule |
Kiran
06.28.11 | this summer, james bond is...a journalist
let me in was a stupid remake, hope this is better, i have faith in fincher but casting craig was a total hollywood bozo move |
Deviant.
06.28.11 | Daniel Craig isn't exactly Hollywood elite though |
foreverendeared
06.28.11 | Daniel Craig is actually a fucking great actor. Defiance, Munich, Road to Perdition. All great roles by him. |
Deviant.
06.28.11 | I mean, had he cast the likes of Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks, or his "muse" Brad Pitt I'd be agreeing with you |
defjaw83
06.28.11 | Yea I think Daniel Craig fits the bill perfectly for this |
Acanthus
06.29.11 | I'll say it again, far too macho for the role. |
Gundlach
06.29.11 | Haven't seen the Swedish movie, but the lead in the novel was supposed to be ex-military physique so Craig is probably a fine choice. |
Acanthus
06.29.11 | Agreed, Craig can't help but look overly muscled though and that's my nitpicky point - the character might have ex-military physique but he is not ex-military. |
Gundlach
06.29.11 | He actually is ex-military (in the book idk about the movie) |
Acanthus
06.30.11 | Ah well that is my bad, spent some time googling it but obviously failed in my research - the books are worth getting then? |
