Underrated Hip Hop Tracks Sputnik Should Listen To
underrated imo |
1 | MF Grimm Time and Space
One of my all-time favorite songs, it's basically the story of how Ibllyis (pretty much the
Islamic equivalent of Lucifer) fell from God's grace over such a chill beat |
2 | Mood Millenium
Much of the album, Doom, was produced by DJ Hi-Tek and features Talib Kweli in several
tracks. This is imo the standout cut, a chill ghostly beat and Y2K lyrics |
3 | Soul Khan Soul Like Khan
An artist not paid too much attention to here. He's far from your average backpack rapper; he
spits very legit multi-syllabic rhymes over soulful, and genuinely awesome production. One of
his best tracks |
4 | Diamond District In The Ruff
Oddisee is somewhat known here but one of his side-projects, Diamond District, doesn't get
enough love. In the Ruff is a hell of a banga, and YU and Uptown XO, the MCs in the group,
are hella smoof |
5 | Wu-Tang Clan America
Sputnik loves them some Wu-Tang, but this cut off of the America Is Dying Slowly compilation
album is almost unknown and is amongst the best Wu-Tang imo. Yeah, it's a song about AIDS. |
6 | Versis The Journey (4U)
Almost entirely unknown cat out of the LA underground stylistically similar to Blu. Super chillll
beat and some great thoughtful rappin. |
7 | Macklemore A Wake
Probably the best song he's ever done, imo. Love the production and sung hook. Some of
Macklemore's most honest, thought provoking verses yet. |
8 | Drake Think Good Thoughts (Featuring Phonte and Elzhi)
Drake before he hit the limelight with the So Far Gone mixtape, definitely some of the more
lyrical and technical songs he's ever done. Legit multis and Elzhi's amazing extended
metaphor in his verse make this such a sick song. |
9 | M9 Il Padrino
UK hip hop, sick mafioso rap inspired tune. |
10 | Ras Kass Understandable Smooth
A track never released due to the album containing it being shelved. One of Ras Kass's best
songs. |
