Bands That Sputnik Either Loves Or Hates That Got Me Into Metal

List of bands that got me into Metal

Yes I know that most of the sputnik community hates this band (and for good reason, St. Anger) but Metallica had a bigger influence on my music taste growing up than any other band. Metallica was one of the first heavier bands (old Metallica, anyway) that I listened to their whole back catalog. Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are what really turned me on to Metal. RIP Cliff.
2Avenged Sevenfold

Didn?t really get into this band until City of Evil and even when COE came out I couldn?t stand them. But, I liked Beast and the Harlot and after that I bought COE which I really enjoyed. Nothing they have done since has been as good as COE but I have still liked the albums they have released since then even though those albums aren?t really metal. They will always have a place in my heart because of how they influence my musical taste. RIP The Rev

What Korn has become today almost makes me ashamed to say that at one point I loved them. I know now thanks to Sputnik that Korn appealed to all angry teenagers like me. Anyway, back when Korn was hot I thought they could do no wrong. I even thought Untouchables and Take a Look in the Mirror were okay. Their music is unlistenable now and I think they should call it quits, but they are still responsible for me listening to the heavy music I listen to now.

Most people either love or hate Tool. I fall somewhere in the middle. I will forever regard Aenima as one of the best albums I have ever heard because it has stood the test of time. I like Lateralus too, just not as much as Aenima. BUT? I have no clue what the hell 10,000 Days is. I still can?t listen to that whole album in one sitting. 10,000 Days did make me lose some of the respect I had for them but nonetheless, they still helped me get into metal.
5Alice in Chains

Back when I was a depressed teenager Alice in Chains music really appealed to me. Layne?s vocals combined with Jerry?s sometimes haunting guitar playing matched the mood I felt in my late teens. Though I don?t consider their music to be heavy per se, their music is really trippy and is what got me into the trippyness (and hallucinogens) that comes with progressive metal and sludge metal. RIP Layne.
6The Deftones

I really used to be into the Deftones. I really did. White Pony is still one of my favorite albums but the sputnik community?s dick riding of this band has made their flaws as a band apparent to me and now I find it hard to listen to them. Chino?s screaming/harsh vocals are really important to me liking the harsh vocals of most metal bands. Would have rated them higher but sputnik has really turned me off to them. Hope you get whole someday Chi.

I know they are not a metal band but Vena Sera could be considered a metal album. Not to mention some of the stuff they have done in the past has been heavy like Get Some and Family System. Vena Sera?s heavyness is also responsible for pushing me over the edge from being hard rock/metal to strictly being metal.
8Soundgarden/Audioslave/Chris Cornell

None of these bands/artists are metal but I did have a mancrush on Chris Cornell at one point. I loved anything and everything he did. Soundgarden breaking up, then Audioslave breaking up, and Chris Cornell?s horrible solo albums are what caused me to find other forms of music to listen to. I?m glad Soundgarden is back together now but I?m kinda glad they broke up because if they didn?t I would have had no reason to start listening to other forms of music besides grunge.

Another band who I can no longer stand and whose music I think is unlistenable. I didn?t start listening to them around LD 50 like most people. I didn?t really start listening to them until around The End of All Things to Come. I never thought they were an excellent band but I loved their heaviness and Chad Grey?s harsh vocals. At one point I thought they were truly metal and one of the heaviest bands around. (Sigh?)
10Linkin Park

I really, really, really hate this band now. Yes I thought they were the ish when Hybrid Theory came out but so did most teens at the time. No they are not a metal but they were still a tipping point that pushed me into Metal. You couldn?t pay me to listen to them now but once upon a time Linkin Park was a good band and songs like Points of Authority, Runaway, and Faint were hard songs to an impressionable teenager.
