Yeah, FFX's soundtrack is far from the best. |

04.07.11 | FF IX will always be the best. |

04.07.11 | 10 is excellent. my top 4 are prolly VII, VI, X, VIII maybe in that order idk |
Trebor.
04.07.11 | FF 6-10 are all great. |

04.07.11 | To Zanarkand is the most emotional piece of music I think I've ever heard, though. Srs. |
Trebor.
04.07.11 | IX is my favorite overall.
X had better combat, but the script was terrible.
|
AngelofDeath
04.07.11 | "To Zanarkand is the most emotional piece of music I think I've ever heard, though. Srs."
The orchestral version of Aeris' theme. Well, most of the FFVII songs that were done with a full orchestra still give me goosebumps. The level of composition of every piece in that game is utterly mind-blowing. |
Acanthus
04.07.11 | I've really only heard 4, I need to get the others sometime. |

agreed, One-Winged Angel is gorgeous |

WashboardSuds
04.07.11 | "I haven't listen to the original soundtracks themselves I'm just speaking in context of the games"
by that I mean I've only heard the music actually in the games, not the actual OST's
"As far as the actual games go, my top three are VI, IX and X. Let da haters hate."
my top 5 games are X, VII, VI, VIII, and V. V has such a dynamic job system |
Fugue
04.07.11 | Ughh I wanna play IX and X again so much right now. |
acorncheese
04.07.11 | I haven't beaten 5 yet. I played it on an emulator long ago, and it was sick as hell, but I never finished it. I've beaten 4, 6-12 (more than half way through 13, but I haven't felt motivated to finish it). |
WashboardSuds
04.07.11 | I never beat 5 either, but I agree it's badass. otherwise I beat 4-X2, XII isn't my cup of tea particularly and I haven't beat it because I suck at it.
haven't played 13 at all either |
acorncheese
04.07.11 | I thought XII was fucking good tbh. I know lots of people didn't like it. It didn't really feel like a Final Fantasy game, but it did feel epic as hell in a Star Wars sense. |
WashboardSuds
04.07.11 | it was epic no doubt, and the whole political thing they had going on was snazzy as hell, but I dunno, call me old-school but that game feels too....modern for my tastes :P like you can basically program your characters to automatically do everything on their own, and the game regardless kicks my ass up and down Ivalice. i gave up at the wall-demon part |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Lol that demon wall was pretty early on, in terms of story, not hours. It was a long game; took me about 70 hrs. My biggest complaint was that it was too damn easy. Magic was obsolete as the regular attacks were so powerful. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | too damn easy? lol I must be the worst FF12 player ever because that game is really hard to me. but to me it came off as a bit tedious too, because the License grid to me was a crappier Sphere Grid that didn't give me enough motivation to grind my characters like previous FF mechanics did before (espers, materia, etc) |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Yeah it started off pretty hard (I must've died over 200 times in that desert at the beginning), but as the game went on it only got easier. It got to the point where in every battle I just cast the spell that doubles HP and then had everyone melee lol. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | License Grid was pretty annoying, I'll agree with you there. I didn't really use the Gambit system beyond auto-heals. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | IX was fun, but the hunts were so pointless and boring. It needed better side quests.
The license board seemed overwhelming at first, but mad sense later on.
Vaan was a pretty pointless main character as well. He didn't contribute anything to the story in the second half. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Yeah, he was paper thin. Balthier was more the main character imo. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | Balthier was boss. Ashe was pretty important as well. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | I thought the characters were kind of weak compared to other FF titles, but the style of characters they used in XII were fitting for the story. Vaan and Fran were weak, but I liked Ashe, Balthier and Bosch a lot. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | Any character is more interesting than Tidus.
Vaan, Ashe, Bosch for my party. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | I still think the Sphere Grid is the greatest thing they ever made next to materia, licence grid is a watered-down sphere grid imo
and that's another thing, i really didn't like 12's cast much at all. I did like Ashe and Balthier but the main characters Vaan and penelo were too weak as characters |
captaincrunch11
04.08.11 | Th music in thirteen is soooooo good. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Completely, 100% forgot about Penelo lol. Piece of shit character. I thought the Sphere Grid was awesome as well. For some reason I don't like the Materia system as much as most people seem to. I actually liked IX's "designated class" deal. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | Sphere Grid is cool.
I like IX because of the lack of jobs or grids or anything.
The draw system in VIII is pretty cool as well. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "Any character is more interesting than Tidus."
Tidus reminded me a lot of Zidane from 9. but he was pretty interesting imo, not on his own but thrown into a world like Spira coming from such a different world did it for me |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Draw system was very nice. The Junction system was incredibly awesome, but it was just a pain having to draw all of the spells. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | The voice actor for Tidus was terrible, and he was whiny, always telling everybody it's his story.
Auron is way cooler. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "For some reason I don't like the Materia system as much as most people seem to. I actually liked IX's "designated class" deal."
It's nice because it's easy to pick up and hard to master, like to VI's espers. though I agree, IX is awesome because it's really straightforward yet deep |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | I thought Tidus was a pretty good main character. He might have had some bad lines and an annoying voice actor, but he fit the role. X's story was just fantastic all around. Shame that the final boss was so atrocious. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | The card game in VIII was like it's own game.
I was addicted to that shit. |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | It bothered me that Yuna was such a dumb-ass.
She was cool in X-2 though. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "The voice actor for Tidus was terrible, and he was whiny, always telling everybody it's his story.
Auron is way cooler."
I dunno man, he was like the relief for everyone else's gloom and seriousness, he did a lot to balance the cast really well. also I really liked the narrative approach and his voice when he tells the story is great |
AndManyMore
04.08.11 | i fuckin gave up on 12. so tired of grinding and still getting pwnd. the battle system combined with the license grid fuckin pissed me off.
the battle system wasnt bad.. just that combination pissed me off. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "He might have had some bad lines"
lol both X and X-2 have ridiculous one-liners in combat
Paine casting Fire: Smoking is bad for you
|
Trebor.
04.08.11 | Don't get me wrong, I love FFX.
These are just little things that bother me.
Still a great game. |

04.08.11 | is it weird that i like RPGs but FFX made me wanna gouge out my eyeballs and jump off of a building? |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "It bothered me that Yuna was such a dumb-ass.
She was cool in X-2 though."
lol at least she didn't continue down the black-haired beauty trend that was recycled through VII (Tifa), VIII (Rinoa) and IX (Garnet)
she was awesome in both games for different reasons |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | I can see why some wouldn't like it as much but to me FFX is the greatest RPG ever in terms of story, presentation and gameplay |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | She was supposed to be like a blind sheep.
The whole story is about how people believe whatever ridiculous religious views are considered mainstream.
Then at the end, she realized she should be her own person and not follow her leaders.
Great story. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | "lol both X and X-2 have ridiculous one-liners in combat
Paine casting Fire: Smoking is bad for you"
Hahaha, yeah. X-2 was actually really fun though. Loved the battle system.
Esper system = grind in dinosaur forest = everyone has every spell lol.
|
acorncheese
04.08.11 | "I can see why some wouldn't like it as much but to me FFX is the greatest RPG ever in terms of story, presentation and gameplay"
It's a shame that most people who dislike the game can only present one argument: "da karacters had dum voices lol" (not pointed at anyone on here). I probably wouldn't consider it my favorite RPG, probably not even favorite FF for that matter, but it is a masterpiece imo. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "Esper system = grind in dinosaur forest = everyone has every spell lol."
same can go with Junction system, V's job system, and Materia, everyone can basically do anything after enough grinding. IX is a good remedy to this
the cool thing about the Sphere Grid is through most of the main game characters follow a specific class but can eventually branch out and do whatever the fuck they want |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | The only major problem with X is that it's way to easy.
Unless you use Riku. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "Hahaha, yeah. X-2 was actually really fun though. Loved the battle system."
I agree, I thought the cheesy lines added to the whimsical nature of the game. actually lots of the game can be considered cheesy but I love it for what it is |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | I thought X had some pretty challenging boss battles (Yunalesca), but I didn't do any grinding in that game. So when I got to the final boss my jaw dropped. I had to strategize like hell to beat that shit. I ended up stealing a few items from enemies that double a characters HP.
I think that's my favorite part of X -- the bosses. So much personality. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "The only major problem with X is that it's way to easy.
Unless you use Riku."
it's more strategic than the ATB-using games, and bosses required lots of careful thinking, so to me the challenge is just right but I wouldn't say it's too easy |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | also Sin is a brilliant concept and boss, js |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | It was easy if you wanted it to be.
Like getting all the summon's limit break bars all the way up before a boss.
I tend to over grind, so that's why it was easy for me. I guess. |
psykonaut
04.08.11 | haha yeah i found the dialogue laughable and the battle system kinda boring, but i kept soldiering on until i got to that seymour boss battle on the mountain. then i was like fuck this |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | The game gets really good after that annoying Seymour battle. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | "but i kept soldiering on until i got to that seymour boss battle on the mountain. then i was like fuck this"
That battle was sick as fuck. |
WashboardSuds

well yeah but that's basically the same for every RPG lol
the more you grind the easier it is really
"but i kept soldiering on until i got to that seymour boss battle on the mountain. then i was like fuck this"
that's one of the most intense fights in the entire game |
Trebor.
04.08.11 | Did anyone actually play blitzball?
I couldn't figure it out, nor did I care. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | There were some awesome bosses after that one too. Spectral Keeper, Sanctuary Keeper, Yunalesca, Sin. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | I couldn't for the fucking life of me understand blitzball. I dreaded that tournament every time I went through the game. I managed to win a few times, but it was completely luck based. Fuck blitzball. |

04.08.11 | blitzball is the stupidest mini game of any ff game. tera cards ftw. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | I'm gonna go ahead here and say that, even though I was by myself when I finished FFX, I was fucking embarrassed when Tidus dove off that platform and gave Jecht a high-five in midair. That was too much. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "blitzball is the stupidest mini game of any ff game. tera cards ftw."
blitzball had a huge learning curve but it was an excellent minigame if you got into it, and the terra card mimic in IX was the real offender anyway
"I'm gonna go ahead here and say that, even though I was by myself when I finished FFX, I was fucking embarrassed when Tidus dove off that platform and gave Jecht a high-five in midair. That was too much."
yeah I agree, facepalm'd that scene |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | "Yunalesca"
definitely one of my favs. I also love the boss battle at the very beginning just because that entire intro in Zanarkand is gorgeous |

this scene made me laugh uncontrollably and then cry because somebody at square enix thought it was actually a cool scene |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Slum: why?
Lol I'm actually listening to my Vessels - Helioscope Remixes CD right now, and one of the remixes reminds me of the song playing at the very beginning of FFX before the blitzball game. I love thinking back to all the bosses of FFX. Chocobo Eater. Defender X (though if you had quick hit for Tidus at that point, this battle is impossible to lose). Amorphous. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | it wasn't cool and it is really goofy, it's just sort of a bonding scene between yuna and tidus really |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5FTJxfV3pc"
Hahahahah, oh my god. One time I was playing this in my living room and my parents were around when that scene came on. I fucking muted that shit QUICKLY. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | Amorphous was so badass, as was the fight with the dragon with a ring around it's neck right before zanarkand |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | For some reason I can't remember said dragon. But the fight with the dragon on the airship was classic. So fucking ridiculous how immediately after that boss battle you had to fight a bunch of soldiers. I swear, I probably beat that boss five times because I kept dying to the soldiers. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | one of the most epic parts of that game was saving Yuna from the wedding, and the song that accompanied that scene was perfect |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | oh the dragon is Sanctuary Keeper acorn, forgot what it was called |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | Ahhhh, yeah that boss was sick. I'm dreading going back and beating 13 lol. I've put it off for like a year. I just can't find the motivation to start it up again. Gotta finish it though. Just because. |
hotshotvegetarian
04.08.11 | Putting nostalgia aside, I think the general consensus is VIII has the best music in the series. My personal favorite is VI though. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | I'd agree that the general consensus is that VIII has the best music, and I agree with the general consensus lol. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | I've yet to play 13, I was thinking about checking it out sometime but I'm undecided.
VIII has some of my favorite battle music for both regular fights and bosses, and I love the Fisherman's Horizon song a lot. |
acorncheese
04.08.11 | 13 is good and all, but as everyone complains, its so linear and unexplorable(?) I'll finish it off this summer whether i want to or not. |
WashboardSuds
04.08.11 | that's what made me indecisive, cause people complained that X was too linear too but I loved that one |
acorncheese
04.09.11 | X is nowwhere near as linear as XIII lol. I'm not too hot on the battle system on XIII either. It was cool at first but ill take classic turn based anyday. |
WashboardSuds
04.09.11 | cool, I was skeptical on the battle system too but now I've cemented the fact that I won't buy the game lol
and I agree, I can suffice with the old school stuff. hell I still play VII to this day |
acorncheese
04.09.11 | Lol I mean its worth a rent or a borrow if you can. There are some cool parts. But easily the worst yet in the series. Yeah I still play the old ones lol. Just ran through IV the other week. |
WashboardSuds
04.09.11 | yeah, I heard XIII can be considered their worst yet. i also heard XIV was a failure too in MMO standards
working on IX again as we speak lol |
acorncheese
04.09.11 | Assuming you've played that one before? |
WashboardSuds
04.09.11 | XIV? not yet, I haven't played XI at all either. you? |
acorncheese
04.09.11 | Sorry lol on my phone and didnt read carefully. I wanna replay ix soon |
WashboardSuds
04.09.11 | lol no problem. and yeah, it's pretty replayable since it's shorter and not that complex |
acorncheese
04.09.11 | Haven't bothered with either MMO title. Just wastes of games to me. Is rather they never broken up the chronology. |
WashboardSuds
04.09.11 | yeah I agree with you there, not that into MMO's anyway but still |
