05.23.10 | van halen and acdc aren't metal, more like hard rock. Goodish list. Lack of variety tho, u need to listen to more metal. I also like Band - Album |
Titan50
05.23.10 | 67 IS MY FAVOURITE ALBUM HUR DUR |
TheSpirit
05.23.10 | this probably would've been a release list back in 1987 |
vanderb0b
05.23.10 | 1 is overrated as hell. very, very good, but overrated. Same goes to 2, imo. 3>1, and 6>2. Some stuff here, such as 4, isn't exactly metal. It needs Death-The Sound Of Perseverance, and the death metal and black metal genres are terribly underrepresented. But the list is pretty cool, for the most part. |
Phrike
05.23.10 | urgh this list |
Demagogue
05.23.10 | 23, 45, 76 are epic! |

05.23.10 | @ FadeToBlack; this list says "According to metal-rules.com", although i must admit i only just noticed that. |
vanderb0b
05.23.10 | I've got 45 of these albums |
FadeToBlack
05.23.10 | it's still terrible, as I said it looks like it was made by someone who started listening to metal in 1978 and stopped in the late 80s.
metal-rules is a shit website anyway so it's to be expected |
Thor
05.23.10 | Welcome to 2010 |
Inveigh
05.23.10 | I think I saw 2 Metallica, 2 Slayer and 4 Iron Maiden albums in the top 10, which as good as those bands are, pretty much negates the credibility of this list.
I also didn't notice one Neurosis album, which, being that a lot of people consider them to be the most important metal band of the past 20 years, is kind of a crime.
but, apparently metal-rules is a shitty website anyways, so it makes since. |
zarquan99
05.23.10 | these are good but i don't see anything from the past-decade! So your just going to dismiss 1/4th of metal history? |
KILL
05.23.10 | why is practice what you preach in front of the legacy lol |
East Hastings
05.23.10 | i have exactly half of these haha |

05.24.10 | Should of been titled:
"Greatest Hard Rock Albums Of All Time (with some metal thrown in)" |
Poet
05.24.10 | Shocked that they went as late as 1998 for picking an album. |

07.28.10 | I honestly have nothing bad to say about this list. |
Phrike
07.28.10 | oh cool thx for the info, these 2 months of waiting were devastating |

07.28.10 | "list rules except that its missing MANOWAR !!!!!"
Yes Ironmaiden 1204, what's up with that???We need Hail to England in this list!!!
I pretty much agree with the first 6, except I would switch 2 and 6. Other than that, the list lacks some contemporary metal, I mean even at the lower positions (I get that you like traditional metal generaly) there could have been many post-1995 records. |
NeutralThunder12
07.28.10 | 4 is awful. 17 is also my fave sabbath album |
lostforwords
07.28.10 | oh I just saw that there are the greatest albums of all time according to metal-rules,not you |

08.03.10 | way to read the description bro |
Metalfist
10.07.10 | Should be "Greatest Metal And Hard Rock Albums Of The 80's, plus a few extras from the 90's". At least they didn't include nu-metal on it.
Honestly you can never have a definitive "Greatest" list in metal, as whats great to one is a turd to someone else. And sadly its getting more that way all the time, while the scene continues to fracture and factionalize itself. Not just fans divided by albums/bands/genres, but also between countries imo. Nu-metal and metalcore are to the United States, what black metal is to Norway etc.
Though I should say Metallica and Maiden were pretty important in the overall scheme of things back in the day (the 80's), but not to everyone obviously... |
